USB485 Install Help.

Just got my USB adapter and I'm trying to install but when I insert the disk I don't get an auto run option.

A window pops up with a listing of the files on the disc. One file does say "AUTORUN" but when I click it it takes me to a page where I can type. Kind of like a word document.

Files are as follows:

WIN98 ME

WIN2000

WIN XP VISTA WIN7 32-64

Adapter manual

Adapter Troubleshooting

AUTORUN

CDM20814 Setup

Light O Rama

Any ideas? I don't want to screw something up.

Download the latest usb drivers from here.

https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM21228_Setup.zip

With the adaptor unplugged, install the drivers then plug the adaptor in.

You should see it appear in device manager. Make a note of the comm port number it is using.

So I went to the link, extracted and installed the file but nothing is showing up on my laptop as being installed today as far as drivers go. Instructions said to plug the adapter in after the driver is installed to complete the installation but nothing happens when I plug it in.

Had IT from my work look and they couldn't figure it out neither so not sure what the deal is.

Is your laptop running Windows 10S? In "S" mode, you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store. If so, you need get out of "S" mode. A quick search will give you the instructions.

Did you look in device manager.

Right click on start, click on device manager.

Looking the ports section, unplug and replug the adaptor. You should see a comm port appear and dissapear. Remember that comm port number

Thank for the help. I finally got it to install. I work graveyards so I was fooling with it on & off throughout the night. I tried installing every way I could find and finally after numerous attempts it showed up in my device manager.

I'm gonna' wake up a little early before work and see if I can test the controller I picked up so I'll let you know how that plays out.

If I don't know what ID was used on the controller by the previous owner will that be a problem when I reset the ID? I watched a couple videos and from what I gathered, it shouldn't be an issue since it will be the only controller I will be running.

Do I need to reset the ID before I test the controller on some lights?

Thanks for all the help. I was def6getting frustrated LOL!

I finally got it installed to where it would show up in my Device Manager on my laptop. I plan on waking up for work this afternoon a bit early to try and test the controller on some lights.

Since I purchased the controller used do I need to reset the ID prior to testing the controller and do I need to know what ID the previous owner used before I reset it? I watched a few videos when I got home from work this morning and from what I gathered,  since I will only be using the one controller this year, changing the ID shouldn't be an issue as it should be the only "existing" controller shown in the LOR Hardware dialogue box.

Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

You need to match the ID of the controller to the ID the lights in the sequence are set to. So maybe you do, maybe not.  It won't matter what the old UnitID is. If you connect it and run the Hardware Utility (HU) it will automatically detect the attached controller. YOU can then change it to whatever your lights are set to.

I would connect it and load a sequence and see what happens. You may hit the jackpot (everything works as you expect) or maybe some lights come on, or maybe none. If some or none comeon, then check the UnitID and change it to match the sequence.

Remember, some boards have selector switches on them for ID no's and some have a jumper to make the ID assigned in the HU be retained. It depends on the age and the type of controller. Check the manual for your model.

Well, I guess I'll have to play it by ear and figure it out as I go. The controller I purchased only has a power switch and 2 15A 250V fast acting fuses under the panel. It is the ShowTime controller.

I'm hoping after all the difficulty I had getting the USB adapter installed, I can get the rest of the set up completed without giving myself an aneurysm LOL.

If it's the metal box, look to the right of the Cat5 sockets and you will see 2 dials. Turning those will change the unit id for the controller.

Yes it is the metal box.

I plugged everything in and at first I kept getting a "Serial Comm Port" error message. I unplugged the USB from the laptop and plugged it in to another USB port and hit refresh and the error went away. I did a quick check with one strand of lights on each of the 16 channels and everything worked correctly as far as I can tell.

I was going to change the ID but the dialogue box said the current controller had no set ID.

Anyway, fixing to head to work. I'm off for the next 5 days so I'm hoping to get a lot done. I'm sure I may need further assistance if you're not tired of me already.

Thanks again for the help.
