texmaster Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 (edited) Hi Folks, I recently bought a JBL Boombox for my Halloween setup and wanted to see if my light o rama display could stay in sync with the speaker so while I mowed the lawn I turned on the sequence editor on the laptop in my house (using a usb 5.0 dongle for the bluetooth) and ran my display with the speaker out front about 30 feet away. My laptop is pretty old but thankfully that didn't matter. After I finished mowing the display was still going about 30 minutes later but I'm happy to report at least through the sequence editor it stayed in sync! Now if only wireless video would work for the projector! My setup is relatively simple (only 7 channels) but it did stay on target. Hope this helps anyone who thought about toying with using bluetooth speakers with their display but had doubts about whether or not the music would stay in sync with the lights. PhilMassey Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 There's no way I would jepardise hours of meticulous sequence timing to the vagaries of a bluetooth connection. Just not reliable enough.
Orville Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 And what happebns if someone wants to "pair their cell phone" with your blue tooth speaker and play their own music over yours? {if that's even possible to do.} But I would rather use an old radio tuned to my station and use that, and if it's capable of using external speakers instead oi built in ones, even better. I use an FM Radio inside my home on the FM transmitter frequency I use and run the speaker wires outside to weatherproof speakers. been running my display like this now for years with no issues. Just not too keen on even trying to use a blue tooth enables device.
Little_b Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I'm glad it worked for you, but for me, I tried it with my Samsung Ear Buds last winter, and they were off by about 1/2 a second, which is huge when sequencing in a .05 time grid.
