Mounting Strips/Tree Topper

Can the new LOR mounting strips just be slipped onto a regular tree topper or do I need to buy some type of adapter?  I was planning to just fold over the top of the strip, ziptie them, and using the existing hole just slip it over the hook.  Will that work?

There are a few company's that sell hooks and brackets but zip ties should work fine .
