I have been using the low power multi point lasers for years.   I have four in my show and all are mounted 12-15 feet off the ground and point downward.

I have 6 and all are pointed at my garage door and are staked in the ground less than two feet away. So, I know they are not sending out any beams other than to the door. And I do like the way they look :-)

My biggest concern with them being openly available, is that those who think it's cool to aim lasers at aircraft, now have super multi beam lasers to aim at aircraft. Scary, scary stuff for anyone who flies.

Seen them, not my forte, I just don't like how they look at all.

Give me old style traditional incandescent or L.E.D. bulbs anytime over this lazy way to supposedly decorate for a holiday.

Plus, because of hooligans/idiots/morons/brain dead jerks that may RE-AIM them skyward or aim them at, or down a road/sidewalk because they think that'd be fun, NO THANKS!, I do not need that kind of grief or financial hardship that could cause.   So they will never be found in my yard or displays!     Only inside the house and only those designed for playing with my cats/kittens to chase on the floor or walls.  And when I use them for that, all windows are covered so none of the laser can make it's way out accidentally or otherwise.

Haters gonna hate.     It is actual decorating which this display owner and his guests go ahhh over and like.   There nothing lazy about building the mounts to secure these and climbing the extra tall ladder on multiple trees, running power with a special relay channel,  and sequencing this light into many songs when its just right to use.

I like them and wish i could have them in my show, BUT, i was told i am not allowed to have lasers for the simple fact that my home is in the direct landing path of our airport here, lol

Totally understandable.

I am near the flight path for Lambert Airport, so I don't use them.

I do not have a secure location to put a laser, and I am afraid that someone could mess with it and point it in an unsafe direction. They did it a few years ago with one of those projectors that throws and image on the garage door. For me it is not worth the risk.

I don't hate them, i just don't care for how they look.  I think they'd have been much better if they could have some way to program them with a remote or something to display an American Flag for those patriotic holidays like Veterans Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July{including a fireworks mode}, as well as being able to display images{Christmas: Snowmen, Angles, Santa in a sleigh with reindeer, etc. and/or Halloween: Ghouls, Zombies, Jack-O;-Lanterns, Tombstones, Vampires, etc., etc.}, instead of just static or moving dots that blur in and out on the side of a house.

But my like stated before, my being in the flight path of 2 extremely busy and irports{one a major one, OIA}, I wouldn't dare attempt to use them outside in my display.  Like Jerry said as well, they're just not worth the risk.

Having seen your show over the weekend, I've got to admit that they looked very cool.

you can get lasers that do images and can be computer programed, through dmx and for more advanced effects (with a compatible laser) you could use software such as pangolin quick show, this would allow you to do all the christmas laser projections and various images that you want.

However the lasers that are compatible with dmx or pangolin cost a lot more then your standard christmas laser projectors and are not often wether proofed and you would have to find a appropriate enclosure for the laser.

The other issue you face with these professional lasers is power the laser diodes in them are often much more powerful then your standard holiday laser and in some cases you would need beam termination.

Here is a good example of pangolin quick show and LOR linked together via dmx

Hope this helps!

My cats could care less, however my thermal temp gun has a small laser on it for aiming, my 100 pound German Shepard/Bull mastiff mix dog will chase that thing all over the house.

I think they're neat but I wouldn't try using them at my house because I'm in a direct flight path of a military base and I'm pretty sure they'd be pissed off at them lol
