70 foot "megatree" ?

Hi

First, sorry for the sideways picture, dont know why it attaches sideways....Last year I put 2000 basic LED lights on my Ham Radio tower. The tower is a freestanding 70 foot lattice in my backyard. The not so good picture is the first night when I had only 5 strings on it (you can see the house windows at the bottom for size comaprison) and before I had the strings symetrical aligned. I added lots more strings from target over the following days and a star on top. It got a lot of attention even without animation of the lights. Anyway, Im just getting into this animation thing, planning for next year (2016). I wonder if it would be possible to animate this thing being as tall as it is? Can a smart pixel controller, still control your basic LED lights from trarget as far as on and off?

Yes, that's possible with either simple light strings, superstrings, or dumb or smart pixels of several different varieties.

Using the "basic LED lights from target" would not require a pixel controller, just a standard AC controller.  Of course, with those strings your can't control individual bulbs.

BTW, what's your callsign?  There are a bunch of hams on this forum.

Did someone say Ham? I'm KF5VCW although I'm not very active on the radio except during tornado season.

JRF, My mega tree uses 33" of Rohn 45 tower. Sure makes it nice for climbing up and down. :)

I got on off of craigslist for like 75 bucks.

Just noticed I cannot hit "quote" and have it work, that stinks.

Where do u go about buying a tower like that Santana helper

For the Rohn 25g tower sections, I found them off craigslist as shfr26 mentioned. Going to craigslist helps to find it local and not deal with shipping costs/problems.

In my area they are hit and miss. Just gotta keep lookin till you find some. Price varies depending on the seller.

They come in 10' or shorter lengths. The top piece has the cone shape for a pole/star.

Then the base is swivel hing type to raise and lower the tower while mounted to the concrete pad which I poured myself.

That's a good find of $175 for the 35' tower. $140 per ten is pretty high when there are plenty of used towers around for cheaper.

If your blazing thru Oklahoma City, I'm just off of I-44 and SW 104th if you have time to stop by.
