So It Begins!

For me, starting my Christmas setup today. Should take me a week's time to get it all in place and connected, barring breaks, sleep, weather, cuts, scrapes, blood, tears, smiles and the long awaited "Its Done" words!!! Others started a while back and some will not start yet. Progress reports anyone?

Yesterday, took down and stored the Halloween stuff. Broke out and hung the roof lights, icicles and the mega arch. Ahead of schedule already. :)

This weekend is the mega tree strands.

Sunday took down the little bit of Halloween kid terrorizing stuff from the porch, and got all the Christmas lighting down from the attic.  I had planned to make some changes to my pixel tree and star this year so the top of the tree frame and star along with the box for the E682 were never put away and were in the garage.  The box with the E682 inside was removed from the frame last spring in prep for the changes (that never happened) and I can't find it.  I knew right where it was and had seen it many times all year.  Did some work in the garage a couple months ago that required moving it, and I cant figure out where I put it.  Spent quite a while looking yesterday and will have the kid looking today.  Hope it shows up cause without that E682, I essentially have no show.  It's got to be out there somewhere and it should turn up.  Next weekend because of the Veteran's Day holiday, I have a 5 day weekend and I expect to put most (or all) of the Christmas lights up.  That will give me over two weeks to test and adjust sequences...

Put up all the lights on the house 2 weeks ago. I had Halloween all apart and in my backyard before midnight on Saturday, all packed and stored in cellar by noon Sunday. Now that all my controllers are free I will start wiring the house and lights on bushes. Really setup will begin this weekend when the pixel tree goes up

Started Christmas Light setup yesterday. Hoping for good weather to continue. Should take about 4 good 8 hour days to complete.

I got a 12 x 50 pixel tree and star done, Main Burst, Pixel Pole and arches. All are wired except the arches. Having to work inside today because of rain. I still have one more day off to work on it. Hoping the rain stops today so I can get the 16 x 50 Pixel tree up.

I may try to talk my husband into working on getting the lights on the shrubs and trees, but we can't do much else because our display is mainly inflatables and lighted tinsel animals.

I put away Halloween this morning and got out Christmas. Put %75 of the front yard props out there so far but back hurts so stopped for the day. Continue in the morning.

I started the last week in October and keeping track of exactly how long it takes to put everything up. I retired about 10 weeks ago and so far so good. There is a lot of work putting up 150,000 lights and 40+ controllers. Last year it took 3 days to take it all down and neatly store it. This year it is all about the setup.

What's taken you guys/gals so long, I'm done with Christmas setup.   I was actually done in late September since my Halloween display, is my Christmas display.

I'm in year 2 of a 4 years plan where all the display items be crossover to both hollidays.  Down the road, might start adding some holiday specific elements.

Here in Ontario I went to start three weeks ago because I was getting an early start for a change (NOT) what a surprise 3" of snow in the morning. Now I like snow but 2nd week of October. Changed plans and worked on some new stuff. 3 weeks latter still working on new stuff. However Yesterday Halloween put away. and out came the bins from storage now a month of panic to put it up. best news is this week weather will be awesome. PS. I finally won the battle of mice in the bins fast forward no repairs.

Started about a week ago and was out last night in the dark testing megastrands(while enjoying a few adult beverages).

I love this time of year! :)

I have 3 strands of lights on one bush. I usually start with the mega tree but with all the granddaughters being teenagers, one going to Oklahoma University! Plus the fact they no longer live with me, it is proving very hard to schedule them to be here all at the same time. It will happen ..... if I can fix my sequences.

Last night I powered up the three CCP controllers, and upgraded the firmware so that they know what the new LOR Enhanced protocol is.  Then pulled in one of my arches and tested all six outputs with one of my sequences using enhanced protocol (but not using an intensity file - but I'm not using any of those this year anyway).

I'm happy to note that the CCPs handled the enhanced protocol just fine.

All my floods and my driveway garage light frame thingy are up from halloween. Broke down the haunted house on nov-1-2, 150+ 2x4's, 30ish tarps, plus all the other halloween stuff is stacked in a neat pile in the backyard waiting for next year. It's supposed to be +7 here saturday so I'll be going full bore on xmas decorating then, got lots of building and sequencing left to do, might have to reuse some past sequences in this years show but that's the way it goes sometimes. I'm looking forwards to see how my psychadelic tree turns out! Targeting roughly 50000 lights this year, maybe more, maybe less!

I have not hung the first string. I hope to get the majority done this coming weekend and finish it all up on veterans day. That's the plan anyway.
