Pixel Spinner

Testing out my tubing bender for my pixel spinner.

Partially completed pixel spinner.  Will go on top of my pixel tree. Still need to solder and splice joints.  That is when last 2 legs will be completed.  Bent 1 - 10 ft. 3/4" emt.  Just under 3 ft. diameter.  This will work for this year, maybe next year make it between 4 and 5 ft.

I'll update the video after I get it all soldered together.

Where did u get the tube bender. What is the price of something like that?

It came from Harbor freight and was around $180.00

Pretty cool idea. Turned out nice.

Thanks

Reminds me of a bicycle rim.   Looks great though and your tube bender seem to work very well too. :)

Thanks

I have the same tubing bender. Have you noticed that as you run the tubing thru multiple times (to get the desired radius) it can slip in the dies and starts throwing the the radius off? If so, any tips for keeping it lined up. I have used mine for the CCR circles, but mainly use it for windmill arms. I bend arms in a "S" shape which requires removing the tubing and starting a radius on the opposite side. A circle is easier to correct, but multiple radiuses gets a little tougher.

Nice job on the Pixel Spinner! If you are looking for inspiration on sequencing take a look at what these guys do with LED sequences on kites.

There are quite a few videos for LED kites, search youtube.

It didn't mess with my radius any but it did try to snake a little.  I just kept it upright best I could while I rolled it back and forth to straighten it.  Came out very close to perfect.

I think I may try to shim the center roller some and see if that helps.

Finished soldering and sealing all joints.  I ran it thru all test patterns on the DMX signal decoder.  There are 12 legs with 14 lights on each leg. A total of 168 lights and 504 channels so only 1 universe needed.  I'll take it outside tonight and video how it looks in the dark.

  • 2 weeks later...

Did a test run using God Bless the USA Medley.  Still some tweaking to do but overall am happy with how it's going.  Took a bit to get visualizer working with the spinner but finally underway.  It only gets easier from here.
