painting your controllers

i saw a post a while back about someone panting his controllers black.  i got to thinking, and i may do that to, except not black, maybe olive green or brown.  i don't think i need to camo my controllers because i leave in a crime area, but painting them to blend in so they don't stick out so much is not a bad idea.  who else paints their controllers, what color and why??

most that I know of, Papa(Michael) and Santas Helper(Tom,)paint the street side with cheapo $1 a can flat black. That keeps the lights from reflecting at the wrong place & headlights from reflecting. Mine have been by my house in the past, so no paint. This year, adding 5 controllers in the yard - I will paint the backs with flat black.

Do it with truck bed liner.

Then you will never worry about it fading or coming off.

I do the same thing with 30 gallon bags.  Have controllers mounted off the ground about 4 feet on EMT stakes.  Tie them off at the base with a short length of copper wire.  Bags also provide protection from rain / ice / snow keeping water out of the plugs (and significantly reducing GFCI trips).

I put mine behind props or bushes or generally out of the way so no painting needed to hide them.  truth be told.. I'm not really sure that when it's dark out they "stick out" all that much anyway so I never considered a need to hide them.  I have more things to worry about in my display than that.  I have three controllers inside my megatree and I don't think I ever noticed them in there when the lights were on.  Certainly the average public never notices them.

I started using black trash bags, but didn't like the look.  So, I simply cut a hole in some blow molds and slide them over the controllers.  Hides them, and is functional.   I actually live in a good neighborhood, but that is sometimes worse than living in a high crime area.  Get a bunch of spoiled kids with nothing to do wrecking displays through the neighborhood every year.  Really isn't much I can do about that, but add some camera's, and even that won't prevent it.  My only saving grace is that I live on a busy Main street, and most of the foul play happens deeper in the development. I would actually feel better about it if the kids understood the value of the things they are breaking, but they are too stupid and spoiled to understand how to make money on their crime.

I double box my Controllers, meaning 1 larger Plastic Tote with a hole in the bottom for Cords. Then use Glitter Paint (red and Green)

I just made "A" frames for mine.... Haven't decided if I need to paint them or not but keeps them up off the ground and out of puddles and snow etc. I can mount as many as 4 controllers on it ( 2 ) on each side or maybe another 1 on each end if need be.

To get an idea as to what I made... you have probably seen the signs many realtors set up advertising their open houses.... similar to those.... I used PVC for the Frame wotk.... is light weight and seems to work fine.

I can move them around if need be as they are not staked in to ground even tough that can be done very easily.

They can be hidden with other display items or wrapped with Christmas Paper(Plastic table cover) and set close to mega tree etc..
