saxon
Is there a way to extend a 2811 pixel string to more than 50? with strips you just add on and keep going to the limitations of your controller and power demands but the last bullet node on a string is usually sealed and wires terminated. Cut the last node off and add 50 more to make a string of 99? Thanks Matt
k6ccc
That would be it. The only nodes I have that don't have in and out wires on the last node are the GE Color Effects and CCPs. None of my 2811s are bullet nodes however, they are all square pixels,
Ron Boyd
I have WS2811 Bullet and Square. All have out wires on pixel # 50. If the nodes you have are 5v, you will most likely need power injection between 50 and 51. 12v is about 75-100 before power injection will be needed. jstorms
My WS2811 pixel strings came in strands of 50. Limiting factor is voltage drop. I extended my strings to 125 pixels each and they worked fine. Logically the chips in the bulbs just count off in order they are found. At first I extended them to 150, had problems with the extension cord length I wanted, and backed them down to 125. I could have done power injection, but wasn't in the mood.
ezimnow
Jim are yours 5V or 12V?
saxon
Thanks guys. I am not concerned with voltage drop, injection is accounted for. I am wondering about extending data. So Jim and Ron your 50 nodes have out wire, huh? The only pixel nodes I have at the moment are CCPs and as Jim mentioned they have no out wires at #50 pixel. Maybe I was hasty in asking my question, I just assumed #50 node was going to be sealed when they arrive. So, the better question is does any know if HC 12v 2811 pixel nodes have out wires on pixel #50? Ill shoot Dave at HC a note and ask. Ron sending you an email. thank again
Ron Boyd
Everything I've bought from David, including the rectangle modules and dumb nodes, have had the wire out. As far as extending data, I have 2 strings on my big burst that have 125 pixels each. The same for the Fan. The longest run between pixels not including from controller is ~4 feet. the other 3 bursts have 136 pixels each, all 1 string with about 2' between arms. The circles in my signature pic, have 128 total pixels and about 2-3 feet between the circles. Between circle # 4 and # 5, is about 5 feet. As long as you're within about 15' between pixels (others have gone further) your data should be ok.
