plasmadrive
There is a revision to the UL standard regarding GFCIs that will become effective at the end of June 2015. The revision to the UL 943 standard requires all GFCI receptacles and circuit breakers to have an auto-monitoring (self-test) feature that ensure the device’s ability to detect and trip in the event of a ground fault and provide end-of-life indication if the device can no longer perform as a GFCI. The end of life will be audible - so you'll know right off it's the problem. I have been told should only $2 or $3 more.Might not be a bad thing. steve synek
Any idea what the exact change is? I am under the impression the current standard requires some indication, but nothing specific. I thought some manufactures device locks the power out, and others might just have a "dummy" light that indicates a malfunction. Steve
wbaker4
The new GFCI's will test themselves every 3 seconds is one change.

TitusCarnathan
Why stock up, it's not going to make any difference on how our displays run. If a GFCI is at end of life then it needs to be replaced why continue to use a non-working one.

Orville
I bought one that was miswired! Since you can wire them as a standard outlet or as a GFCI, they had swapped the neutrals, so when I followed the directions to connect it as a GFCI, it was in reality wired as a standard outlet, put the neutral on the other screw that WAS supposed to be wired for standard outlet and it worked fine. Must've been built on a Monday and the hangovers hadn't receded yet, or a Friday anxiously waiting to get to the bars! The main thing it worked, I just had to note their neutral for how it should be wired was reversed!
