The Camera Can Make the Difference on Videos

Hi all,

so I recently went through a video camera upgrade... and yes, what is used to shoot does make a difference I have found.

This URL:   https://vimeo.com/115427189  Is filmed using a GOPro... They are great for bright lights, but do get all the colors. Just no Lense control.

This URL: https://vimeo.com/117806801  Is filmed using a Canon XHA1s (Studio Camera).

Now I have to reshoot the danged display! :)

Just my 2 cents.

Kip

Looks like the same video?  I think you copied the same link.

I did see the other vid on your Vimeo site.  Big difference.

I use a Contour.

Note to self: Don't suction mount it to the door glass of your Corvette. The base vibrates the video and makes it look terrible.

It looks like the second one should be:

What a difference!

I am anxiously waiting for my video guy to get my videos back to me.  He shot the whole show four times from different angles using two different cameras.  Should be good once he has time.  For 2015 another friend promises that he'll have his drone, so that will give at least one more angle...

Turn the bass down, problem solved.

Did you capture that audio live? I was hearing a lot of static. On my videos, I just drop the live audio and lay in the original MP3 file.

Though, to be honest, I dont really have a choice because my drone "drones-out" any live recording of sound.

Here's mine,,, I think I used like 5 camera angles.... some better than others!

The drone has the worst camera quality, but still my favorite shots!

Yes, I am sure there is a big difference, but your comparison isn't truly fair. In your first video, your distance away from the display is significantly further (or at least you are zoomed in on the 2nd). This will obviously improve the focus/sharpness of the lights in the 2nd video.  Plus your computer rendering on the 1st video is much poorer -- evident even by the blurriness of the title text at the beginning of the videos.  Night and day difference just right there alone.

To capture the audio of my show this year, I tuned the radio on my cell phone to my broadcast and then plugged the headphone jack into the microphone jack on the camcorder.  My camcorder is a 3 CMOS Panasonic.  Take it off automatic and stop the iris way down to get great color.

I updated the links on this ... The distance on the 2 camera's is the same from the house.. I will be posting other links with the HD Camera, You will be able to also compare as last year s videos were shot with a JVC DVR300 -SD Camera with a wide lens.I actually put up a Comparison Album: https://www.vimeo.com/kiplorenzo/albums

I did check the original comparison, I re-rendered the gopro video and re-uploaded in HD.

The Canon I have has a wide lens also, but there is no zoom used in either of these shoots.  The true comparison will be the Canon XHA1S to the JVC. Both Cameras are 3ccd, but the Canon is HD.  I did enjoy using a go Pro for the original shoots. But the Canon with a Wide lens takes the cake. :)

As far as the static, the Radio Transmitter is good, the Walkman is So So, I have to reshoot a few songs this weekend (Polar Express, Frozen Trilogy) and will see if moving a bit changes the static. The Camera does have MP3 Time code overlay capability, but I'm just learning how to use it. I did acquire a crane and LCD Kit to lift the camera 18' into the air.

I re-rendered the gopro image as I was told I rendered it low, so it is now at HD Standard. The 1 is gopro, the other is CanonXHA1S

Below is the GOPRO: https://vimeo.com/album/3230251/video/117874502

This is the Canon:https://vimeo.com/album/3230251/video/117806801

And I think i did the links correctly.

gotta ask, are those modified solar driveway lights?  If so, what did you do?  At first I thought they were just the garden variety solar ones until the magic happened.

Those are custom built Lights. These were a batch when I worked at Sheplers... They are designed for Candles, but I converted them to WS2811 RGB.  Royal Pain in the A** to get everything put in the ground and wired. but once done, change outs are easy if a bulb dies.

You should post a how too on how you converted those driveway lights to use RGB.  I'm sure a lot of folks around here would like to know how you modified them!   Effect with them is really great.

I'll see about whipping up a how to video. :) All of the display has been re-shot with the Canon and re-posted. :)
