wt1924
Thank you Darryl, but I would like an IDMX. I know there are other options but they will not work with LOR Hardware utility with what I am wanting to do. Still looking!

Ken Benedict
Thank you Darryl, but I would like an IDMX. I know there are other options but they will not work with LOR Hardware utility with what I am wanting to do. Still looking! I've used several iDMX-1000 units for stand-alone non-musical sequences; it has a good sized onboard memory.
godman
What exactly does the iDMX-10000 do or used for?
viennaxmas
The iDmx translates control signals between LOR and DMX. To LOR it does appear as a LOR controller and can be used like any other controller (except it can have a lot more channels). On the output it provides DMX to anything accepting DMX as control protocol.
godman
So if its used like an LOR controller, you just assign a controller number and sequence like you would a regular controller but in as an RGB Channel?
plasmadrive
So if its used like an LOR controller, you just assign a controller number and sequence like you would a regular controller but in as an RGB Channel?Yes and not exactly. Yes you assign it a set of controller numbers (two ways to do that), and it sequences like regular channels but outputs in DMX512 protocol. Whether you use it for RGB or wiggle lights or fog machines or any other type of fixture that is controlled by DMX, is up to the user.
derekb
Sorry. After looking at my setup, I am keeping mine for at least another year.
wt1924
Thanks for evaluating your set up to see if you could help me. Thanks to everyone who responded. I now have one in my possession. Thank you!
zman
A few things to add: 1. Make sure you have the latest firmware on the iDMX2. To have it work in DMX512 mode, do not use a controller ID ending in 0 (zero), so don't ID it as 10,20,30, A0 (which was the default) etc...3. A bit more detail on "translate" The reason for a DMX dongle (the iDMX is LORs dongle) like an enttec pro or iDMX is to do all of the translation and streaming of the DMX signal. This can be done with a USB485, but the computer then takes on this task. This is why as Ken pointed out, it has quite a bit of memory. I've used these in my display since the iDMX's inception, and it had done great for my traditional DMX universe of floods, yokes and theatric zap strobes. wt1924
Thank you, zman, for the information. I will be using mine to connect to moving heads for a different project than my Christmas display. Haven't received the moving heads yet so i haven't started set up. I am in the beginning stages of research and figuring everything out, but once I receive the moving heads I think I have enough information to get going. Thank you!
