Can't Get A Good Video

I finally got my show the way I want it and have been trying to get a good video to post on Youtube, but every video I do comes out unfocused and the colors are off.  I've tried using both my Kodak PlayTouch and my BenQ, both at their highest quality.  Still getting crappy video.  Anyone have any tips for getting a good quality video without having to buy or rent an expensive camera.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do NOT have it on Auto focus...

Go to the dollar store and get a pair of $1 sunglasses and pop out the lens and tape it over your camcorder lens...

If you can, set the aperture lower

use a night setting

if you have it, use the firework setting

of course use a tripod

Thanks Jim.  I had considered turning off the auto focus, but didn't think it would help.  The sunglasses sounds interesting.  I guess they act as a filter to some extent.  I will do a couple of tests with your ideas and see what happens.  Thanks again for the tips.

agreed on the autofocus, turn it off. This year, I rented a higher-end video camera to do mine and they turned out suprisingly well. Had to use a tripod of course

The sunglasses do sound weird, but makes sense at the same time.  Will head to the dollar store first thing tomorrow.  Never thought about the auto focus having to keep up with the lights either.  I've never had much luck at night recording, but since I'm doing these light shows now, I better get good at it.  Thanks for all the input!!!
