Meteor Lights, single or double sided?

Thinking about adding the Meteor Lights, the dropping LED Icicles for next years show and hoping to pick some up just after this Christmas. I don't know a lot about them, is there an advantage / disadvantage of single sided vs. double sided, other than the price. Any particular brands to stay away from? Do any have a way to adjust the rate of fall on the lights?

Do any brands not come on all at once and take time to start their cascading effects?
