Outdoor Controller = Holes DOWN please

I have now seen 2 tickets in 2 days where customers have destroyed AC controllers.  The problem appears to be that BOTH of these people had their controllers laying flat on the ground.

DON'T DO THAT

All of our devices that are designed to be left out in the elements are weather resistant -- But only if they are mounted PROPERLY.  That means that any holes MUST FACE DOWN.  You can NOT place your controller, ANY controller, flat on their backside.

That applies 100% of the time if the controller is exposed to the elements, even if you are using things like the rubber plugs that come with Cosmic Color Bulbs and Pixels.

Of course if they are protected from the elements (say, in a Garage), you can run them however you like.

What color will you be making the "This End Up" labels for the next production run of controllers?  Don't forget the arrows!

Heee, Heee. Love it. I suppose they also should make labels saying that only trained personnel should work with the controllers. High chance of electrical shock and only professionals should work with these units.

A lot of people don't think electricity is dangerous since they can't see, smell or hear it. Based on that, they probably have no clue that electronics can be harmed  when exposed to water, yet they know they can't get the cell phone wet....go figure.

True Confessions of a controller left on grass!

CCP%20blown%20power.jpg

Here I am on the workbench all charred and feeling useless.  There was nothing I could do that night.   All I recall was a big BAM.  When I woke up, I think it was two days later.  This bright light came when my lid was removed.  I told my story as best I could.

I was very comfortable that night as I had been for a week or more.

My black cap was in with one cat5.  I recall my owner spending a LOT of time getting that tight cap in and wondering why since there was still an unfilled hole in it.

The 4 corner screws of my lid were in but not the 4 side screws.  I do have a lot of screws to seal me up tight tight tight.  Er  that part of me anyway.

I was laying mostly in the grass but at an angle and leaning just a little against a wire frame mini tree.  I called out  "WAIT"   dont leave me here like this!  Moisture is bad for my health!

For a bunch of nights all kinds of fun happened in spurts of 4-5 hours while people drove by.  But each night I sucked in a little more moisture and I was filling up.   Just the bottom corner by my access hole at first.  Eventually I gathered enough water inside to short that first black power choke thingy on that low corner.  I went dark very loudly and it got really smokey in here.  Neither of my fuses in my power plug or inside me blew.

When the light came in, I saw my owner.  He stared at me and cussed for at least a minute.  Then he walked away and started moving my brothers around and setting them up higher.  I cried out, 'Hey its all about ME!' I am wounded you know!  Before you know it I was on the bench and I had been replaced with a clean newbie from a box.   HARUMPH ! I thought to myself.  Why does HE get to be cable tied off the ground and I didn't?    Life is so unfair.   Here I sit wondering if I will ever recover or if I will get a ride on that big Friday morning truck off to I don't know where and not be heard from again.  Sigh.

Good stuff Bob.

It's good to see the humor release from time to time.

Helps to keep your head from exploding.

Thanks for all you do.
