I decided to make a spiral tree because i cant leave well enough alone.

But this may be different or maybe has been done.

I bought a cone tree from big lots for $39 to use the frame

And bought some 1/2 pex and put 5050 rgb ribbons in it. Then started putting it on the frame.

I ended up using 6, i hope it will work ok.

Now to figure out how to sequence it and put it in 35 songs lol.

I think that will work j just fine. Looks great. I keep debating whether to buy a couple of those or not. Did you use pex with rgb strip in it for the spirals?

That looks really cool.  I've never been that much of a spiral tree fan, but seeing the last photo with all six strips just might change my mind...  Looking forward to video of it in action.  If it were me, I suspect I would use smart strips.  Is each spiral just the right length for a 5M strip?

I bought a roll of pex so it would already be in the spiral shape, and just cut it to fit the strips. One 25'roll was perfect to fit 6 strips for this 7' tree.

I will add, 3/4 pex wouldnt be a bad idea, the strips are pretty tight getting them in.....infact i bought a tube of ky to do it lol

A little bit of progress today, i wired the pig tails.

That fails my sanity check.  A 25 foot roll into six strips would be just over 4 feet long.  Can I assume it really was a 100 foot roll?

The more i think about it,i want to add a seventh strip to fill in a slight gap, and that way i can put a one channel rgb star and use a complete cmb24d

Looking great. Good info on assembly tips. Hope it comes out looking great in your display as well.

So that's what ky is for.

More good info.

Well its now obvious i have no idea how to sequence a spiral tree and make it look good, so i guess this project is scrapped.

What's the issue your having?? Spirals trees are easy to program, might be a little harder with only 7 sets but it can be done

It still has 6 on it now, but it just dosnt look right, dosnt really have a "spin" to it. A half second on each channel spins but its too slow, .05 is a good speed but no spin, im wondering if the pex is too horizontal.

Also i dont know if i have the right pex.....its very solid white it dosnt let much light through and turns white green. I would think a frosted clear would be better but i didnt see any.

I am just starting to research rgb but ...
if using rgb strips on a spiral tree - wouldn't you need to be able to see the wraps from 360*
if the wraps are only facing outward then the illusion would be lost

I may be wrong - - like I said - I am at the research stage only

I got some video, using 1,2,and three rgb channels. It just doesn't look right to me,if you squint it looks like its spinning.

Too many wraps maybe?

I don't have a spiral tree , so just observations.

Seems like most are only 1.5 wraps.

Still looks good, but does look to be jumping a little bit.
