plasmadrive
I have been testing for very short periods of time over the last couple of days.. I have had strings of cars come by and just wait... even with no lights on.. I am thinking they are last years guests that remembered where I was... I don't turn on until Dec 1st.. I finally had to put a sign out that said "testing only, coming Dec 1st" I feel sorry for those that waited around only to find small bits and pieces with no audio.. But what can you do.. gotta test sometime when it's dark..and I don't want to be up all night any more these days... LOL So, how you y'all handle that? Marty Belisle
Yes it can be a little sad to have folks waiting for the show especially when they think its going. I too have always started up on Dec 1st and have been saying so in my filler song for many years. With time word has gotten on the street. I'm doing my last chance power checks today, crazy cold minus 26 C and a ton of snow. Sure hope things work out.
colonel
We officially start Dec 7 but have had 20-30 cars a night since we turned it on Nov 20. Already have donations! We still don't have it all up and in our "pre-show" show we announce between every 2-3 songs that the first show is Dec 7. If people enjoy the lights, why not, Most don't notice half the display is gone, etc. I used to try to keep it a secret and test only in the wee hours and then have a big preview party for just friends the night before. After 2 years of "secret" the parking lots were full on preview night. I would not officially "open" early as there are a lot of things that can go wrong. We had a power supply die, wind storm blem a lot down, wind chills near zero, etc. Ho Ho Ho!
