All,

So here's the ponder:

Does anyone light the lights before thanksgiving (christmas Display- not a halloween display) ?

Its a lot of work to go through for 5 weeks of a show. :)

thanks

Kip

Yes and no.

My show is operational before Thanksgiving, but I don't run it till the day after.

(We host the family thanksgiving, so nobody would be able to see the show thru all the cars anyway)

I don't start my show until after Thanksgiving because its that weekend that I'm setting up the show. Its a four day weekend for me so when I'm not preparing the feast, I'm out in the yard. The show starts that Sunday.

+1 on Thanksgiving night...  I take the week of T'giving off each year to get setup, (not including the lights on the roof, as I put these up on Halloween weekend).  starting on Saturday.  By Monday or Tuesday I am ready to start testing, so there will be a couple of nights running the show, tweaking, etc.  Kind of like "pre-season"... :-)

  • 3 weeks later...

We are going live Black Friday evening. Inviting whoever from the neighborhood, family, friends and just going to have a show lighting party. Wife is making cookies shaped like lights, hot chocolate, fire pit with marshmallows and s'mores, maybe popcorn. Should be a blast. Completed setup yesterday but have been testing various elements all this past weekend. First year show here and only 16 channels but kept reading start early start early. So we did. Pretty happy that I can take my time and test and tweak each sequence for the next 2 weeks. Sequences definetly look different full scale on the house than in the visualizer so have a few things to tweak in each one. Can't wait to officially flip I the switch

I just ran three songs last night for the grandkids. Only saw two minor problems which I've already fixed today. Show starts up Thanksgiving night 6Pm exactly.

There's no way I could. My thanksgiving was a month ago! ( Canadian) :-P

At the rate I'm going I won't be ready till Christmas

I'll be starting my show in the next day or two.

It helps that I didn't take it down last year due to laziness, just turn on the power (my controllers are hardwired) and hook up the computer.

Starting Thanksgiving evening (Black Thursday).

Kip, I understand the 5 weeks thing. The problem with some folks (grinches, grumpy neighbors or shoppers) is that 5 weeks is too much for them.

I hear some folks complain about Christmas music playing on the radio Christmas day or the weekend prior. Or Christmas stuff in stores in August.

I'm thinking geez, you must of had a great childhood.

Turn the radio off if you don't want to hear it and don't buy it if it's already in the stores.

I for one get excited to see Christmas stuff on the shelves and Christmas music on the radio. Sets the mood for the upcoming season.

So 5 weeks is just about perfect for me.

I expect to have most of the show setup this coming weekend (+ Tuesday that I'm taking off).  I'll do some testing (mostly in the 04:00 to 05:00 AM time frame), but the show goes live on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

One of my neighbors put up lights on his roof and tree out front already.  He has had them lit up every night since about a week before Halloween.  He does not do an animated show.  I think I remember them being lit until February earlier this year.
