Adding Contollers to an existing network out of ID sequence

Does anyone know if you can add controllers to an existing setup with unique ID's but not in sequence?

 

Example Network:

 

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6

 

New network setup with additional controllers (7 and 8):

 

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 7 - 8 - 5 - 6

 

Will this work or not recommended?  I should have left space in the original ID setup I now realize.
