Papagayo tutorials

FarrOut

Recommended Posts

I've been to the itsmebobo site and downloaded the programs and watched a couple of video's.

Still having a lot of problems with Papagayo.  I haven't even tried converting to LOR yet, but that will

have to happen soon.

Any recommendations on where to find some tutorials?

Thanks

Dennis

Thanks, I'll start with what I've done.

I'm using 'Sean' version that has the faces on the left.

I am using 'Grandma Got Runned over' for my first song.

I got all the lyrics and verified they match the music I have.

I loaded the text and clicked breakdown.

The phenoms all loaded, but of course the timing was off.

I tried to start the timing from the beginning of the song, but couldn't

get it to work, if the beginning of one line passed the beginning of another line,

the second line just disappeared.

I started working from the end of the song, That seems to be working, but

every time I try to play the song it starts at the beginning so I have to wait

until it gets to the part I'm working on.

Is there an easier way?

Thanks

Dennis

my suggestion is to break the song down into very small sections (audiocity or other audio edit program)  with only one or two phrases in the song at a time.  i download the words to the song and mark the beginning and end times of each section on paper first to help later.  Put the edited section onto Papaguyo ,  enter the phrase's  and let it post.  Fix the beginning and ending FIRST before adjusting any of the words.  If you move the start or end of the song everything will be thrown OFF,  save often.  I start from the end and work towards the beginning (you will need to drag some stuff to the end).  Double clicking on a work will play only that section it covers. Pay attention to the wave form at the top of the screen.  Once you have the section completed, convert to lor.  Paste into LOR your actual sequence at the appropriate point (starting of the section you are working on). On to next section etc. etc.  I found that working with to long a section at a time makes things much or complex and more likely to be off.

There is no problem with longer sections of 2 -3 minutes if you prefer to work that way.  Timings do not get less accurate if you are using 25FPS within papagayo.

I think the problem FarrOut had was not knowing how to check alignment by double clicking the word or phrase.

If you have an slow PC you may need smaller sections because papagayo bogs down and becomes unresponsive.

I use the short clip method and it works for me. What I have found is if you miss a word in the lyrics and have to go back and add it to your 2 to 3 minute clip and then you break it down again all your previous work is lost. everything gets realigned. if going big on the clip, make sure that the words are correct before you break it down. Nothing sucks more then spending lots of time lining everything up to find you left out a small word. The main thing here is to have fun with it. and don't forget we're here if you need help.

OK on to conversion.

Downloaded program.

Exported voice to file in papagayo.

Clicked 'Load Papagayo exported voice'

Selected exported .dat file.

Got this error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I can find no information on the converter except what appears to be a video

that says it will clear up problems with the instructions, but, not so much. :mellow:

Next roadblock,

I got the conversion program to work (It was looking for papagayo in a different place than I had it)

I got the channels identified.

I exported the file.

I defined the file in Sequence Editor clip board section.

When I try to paste from the clip board, it says there is no data in the file.

I opened the file with wordpad and copied the first few lines:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<channelsClipboard version="1" name="test03">
<cellDemarcations>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="452"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="472"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="480"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="488"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="500"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="512"/>
<cellDemarcation centisecond="520"/>

Papagayo to LOR  program shows on the screen how many mouth movements and how many seconds are in the exported papa file you open.

When pasting into LOR you must use the pasted by time option.

I have become very familiar with PPG.  Once you do 1-2 songs, it becomes second nature... i want to thank BobO and Matt Stuart for the software, and the assistance.  They both are very helpful and knowledgeable.

BTW, I am OCD, so I may be more "particular"... with that said, it is much easier to break the songs down in manageble chunks.  I typically do it by the lyrics phrases.  For songs that have repeatable sections, it becomes easier, because you can reuse the sequences throughout the song.  Keep in mind that with timing and other changes, you may have to make subtle changes once the face sequence is added to the full sequence.

The most important thing is what has been said... the breakdown lines up the phrases across the entire audit section.  you must line up the phrases at the top before trying to line up the individual words / lyrics.

And to the point of missing a word, remember, the words are there for a guide. If you miss a word, you can add the phoneme representation to any word in the lyrics. For example,  I do this when a breath is heard in the song, but of course not in the lyrics... I set the word to cover the breath, and then add an "E" for example for the breath...

If anyone has any questions, in regards to the sequencing, please send me a PM and I will be more than happy to help as best as I can... Of couse BobO and MS are more experienced, but I am willing to offer my help.

The best thing though is to keep playing with the software and you will experience the "AHA" moment...

Cheers

Thanks for that.  I've got Papagayo down pretty well, it does get a lot easier once you have done one or two successful songs.

My  problem now is the conversion to LOR clipboard.  See the post above for details.  BobO has worked with me and we got one song to convert, but

as soon as I tried to do it myself, it failed again.

FarOut, let me know what your schedule is.  I am willing to try to help you.  If you are available tomorrow evening we can try to work together.

I have WebEx so we can do this in real time if you want.

Send me a PM or email... HermanRaZZlo@yahoo.com

  • 6 months later...

Is it possible that someone can make a quick video on from first opening papagayo the first time to how to load the different mouth positions, the music, get the music to run etc.

I can stop the video as I would like if someone could do it step by step for a complete face or for 2 faces so I can learn how it is done a lot faster and see how to get things to load.

Doesnt have to be a complete song... Just a couple sentences would be great. I plan on using 8 channel faces like the ones HC has on their site and their trees.

I have managed to get it to open, load music. and that is all.... how do I set it for all the different mouth shapes and get the phonics or whatever you call it to show on the timing screen...

I am sooo lost and Have thought about completely deleting it and doing it the simple way with just two mouthy positions and using the seq editor for it.

Thanks to anyone who can help in advance..

I will watch your videos again maybe I missed the part where you said where or how to do it.

I know the ones I did are not real good but it was to learn with,,

I will be here checking things out...

again

 Thanks a million Bob If I can get it to convert I will probably put it here for anyone that wants to check it out can check it out... .

I was going to use it tonight... when I clicked to start it it did not open .. I got a message only that says

No Handler Found for image type...

That is all that opens... I did try rebooting a couple times nothing helped.. still got the message and nothing else... I uninstalled it restarted then re installed... still the same message...

Bob I Hope you can help me with this and it is something simple maybe that I just haven't tried yet... I have tried to find the solution here on the forums but have not found it..  Thanks Bob

'No handler found for image type'  should be ignored.    Just hit OK.    There will be no impact to the program.   Remember this program is old and was not written by me.   The error due to a file existing in an image folder for mouth which is not an image.  The program does not need the image which is not an image so its an unwarranted message.   Please ignore.
