bschilz
Length should not be an issue as CAT5 standards would allow up to 235 feet. I'm guessing you terminated the cable incorrectly or have the pin-out mis-wired. If you bought the cable pre-made, there is a flaw in the cable or RG45 connector is incorrectly wired. If the pin-out is corect, try running a continuity test.
steve synek
I would suggest you get a cable tester- even a very cheap one- as it sounds like a bad cable. Look on ebay for a cat5 tester. I just saw some for $5 or $6 which included shipping. Steve
chandalen
#1 If you made the cables, check the wire connector wiring.#2 you shouldnt really need a cable tester, plug the cable into your computer and into a router or cable modem. If it doesnt connect the wire is bad.#3 if you bought the cables make sure one is not a CROSS OVER cable. They have 2 pairs of wires flipped inside. In any case, going shorter should not be an issue for sure. really simple, bad cable in one of the new cables. swap each of the new cables one at a time with the 50 footer.Max put it very simply and this would be the easy way to do it.. BTW, why 3 cables instead of one? And if you are putting those end to end, perhaps you should check the connectors in between as well.
