Well....can not complain about the mild summer here in Arkansas but...beginning to wonder if the grass will ever die and if I will be mowing on Thanksgiving and weed eating around the props!! Start with the roof and see when Mother Nature lets the yard props go up I suppose.

Being in sunny San Diego, I'm in the same boat.  I usually cut my grass for the last time around the first week in Nov.  I cut on the shortest setting I can get with the mower.

Real men aren't afraid to brave the winter weather.  When it's real cold all you have to do is wear enough layers so the dingleberries don't completely retract into the abdomen and you're all set.

Hard to put up lights in the dark and you can't feel your fingers.

Usually by now I am looking at a brown yard and only the hardy weeds are growing and making me mow occasionally. This year my grass is as green now in September as it is in June. I too will be starting on the roof rain or shine when usually the rain keeps me grounded.....maybe the frost will come on time.

I'm reading this and shaking my head. You guys don't realize how good you have it. We've already gotten frost a couple of times, most of Alberta was covered in snow for a few days last week due to a freak september blizzard. The geese are flying south already. I considering starting to put whatever I can put up soon to try and beat the snow. My lawn hasn't grown a bit in the last 3 weeks or so. I'm waiting on over a 100 strings of lights that were originally supposed to be shipped by Aug 22 but I am now told won't ship until sept 22. I'm putting most of them onto a frame from one of those temporary fabric carports, the frame has been set up on my deck for a month now, I had hoped to be able to wrap the strings on it in the nice warm sun but now that looks like it won't be happening either. It looks like I'll be doing the same as last year, building props in my dining room!!! :D

I'm here in Arkansas as well and its all nice and lush green everywhere. Now if the humidity would back off some more, that'd be great. I think I have my things ready to put out but Halloween comes first. That's the lady of the house's thing and all her inflatables. Nov 1st, Halloween comes down and Nov 2nd, Christmas setup begins. It should take me a week to get it all up then testing begins.

Been perfect weather here the past couple weeks. 50F-65F and no humidity. I've been working on 54" tomato cage trees and other decorations after work every night until dark. Love this time of year!!! :)

  • 1 month later...

And some of us pray for cooler weather. :)

The cold that's coming is Tom's fault.

Weatherman just said Arctic Bowling Ball is coming...

Yep, Thank you very much!!!

And yes, it was called an Arctic bowling ball.

Only in Oklahoma.

Seriously, it's either freezing weather or cut down that tree in front of my mega tree. Those leaves have to go. ;)

Yes, cold here too only a couple of hours away. At this time, I'm about %50 completed.

I'll be about 50% complete by Sunday (mega tree lights will be hung tomorrow and connected up on Sunday).

With the cold snap coming in next Tuesday, I'm taking off work Monday to put up my mega arch and get it all connected. Then all my ladder work should be done.

Then ground level work with mini trees and hopefully arches, if I get them built.

I'm ahead of schedule just because of the nice weather we're having but also looking ahead with old man winter knocking on the door.

I've got one megatree support structure up and now today will do the second one, then start having to hang lights. Two person job there since mine are spiraled. Still have to get up on the roof too...but I have almost 3 weeks left, so it should all be done, barring this huge cold blast they are talking about on the news for the next couple of weeks. Only have one failed string so far.

CCR mega tree up, 12 mini trees up, all the floods up, lights in my trees up, driveway arches up, rope light up, strobes hung. Today I'm building dancing arches and hanging snowflakes. I'd say I'm 75% complete. It was +1 C yesterday which is unheard of for this time of year, -14C with the wind chill today, forecast doesn't look any better. The cold that we all hate here up north is coming! Better hurry up!!!!

I'm taking off today to try to get ladder work done before snow hits next week. HOWEVER - being Oklahoma, I have to freaking mow my yard this morning before I can start hanging Christmas lights!
