Can I connect a motion sensor to the CTB08Dg3-V4?

Hi, I recently purchased 3 CTB08Dg3-V4's to use in my haunted house. I am hoping to trigger lights or a sequence from a motion detector. Looking at the instructions from the link on the LOR store page: http://www.lightorama.com/Documents/UseMotionDetector.pdf it looked pretty simple plug and play but this board is nothing like the one in the picture. How do I hook this up? Help!!!, lol. I see that the board is recommended for standalone so I'm pretty sure it's possible and I'm headed in the right direction. I've checked the website, there's no manual listed for this controller and I can't seem to find a manual that has this boards picture on it. Am I looking in the wrong place? Did I even buy the right boards??? I'm stumped....

Look at the manual for the 1602w-G3 controller. Find the part about triggers, page 28 and picture on page 8.

 

If you have the input header shown on the picture of page 8, you're all set.


Bleh ... should have clicked the link first.

 

Open a support ticket and ask what input header to use on that board....

I'm sorry, but I think you are out of luck. The input on the CTB08 is not like the inputs on most other LOR boards.

The input connector noted above is used during standalone operation of the unit.

When used in standalone mode, the CTB08 can operate without a connection to

the PC. To operate in this mode, an animation sequence must be installed on the

CTB08 using the Light-O-Rama Hardware Utility. See the HELP files with the

Hardware Utility for sequence download instructions.

Once a standalone sequence has been loaded by the Light-O-Rama Hardware

Utility, the Input connector is used to start and stop the sequence. Generally the

supplied jumper will remain in place on the connector. With the jumper in place,

the standalone sequence will operate anytime the unit is powered.

A normally open switch can be attached to the jumper to provide low voltage

control of the unit. Once activated (closed connection) the unit will operate for

one pass of the downloaded sequence.

My suggestion would be to get an input pup. That will give you up to 8 inputs.

This is a different board than the one pictured in the CTB08 manual, I'm at work but I'll post a pic tomorrow. Maybe that will help shed the light, the board is labelled CTB08Dg3-V4 , maybe it is the new improved successor to it? I created a ticket with LOR so I'm sure we'll find out soon. If it don't work hopefully they'll be willing to return/trade for what I need....

LOR as expected replied promptly to my inquiry " The controller board is the same as what is used inside the new LOR800 unit. See details at http://www1.lightorama.com/Documents/LOR800W_LOR160xWg3_UserMan_Web.pdf. Scroll to page 28 for details on connecting external triggers. " Page 28 shows a diagram for connecting an external switch but I can't seem to figure out where there would be an input header on this board. Anyone see anything that could be what I'm looking for? If you have a bare board, the input header is going to be at the BOTTOM of the board, to the LEFT of the 3 push buttons.  It will look like a small black thing with 10 pins (2 rows of 5).

 

If you have a board in an enclosure, the input header location is shown on page 7 of the LOR800W user manual.

 

The input header you need is this one:

I don't know what kind of Motion Detector you are using.  However if it is OURS:

HOT NC goes to I1

NEU NC goes to G

+12V goes to +9

-12V goes to G

 

Notes:  Yes, 2 wires should end up at G (or splice them together as needed).  The PIR says it needs 12V but works fine at 9V.  If you are not using our motion detector, please consult the manual for the one you have.

Hi Mike, thank you for your help but I'm still confused. Please note the picture in this link, https://www.facebook...&type=1 , there are no push buttons that match up to the description you provided, I do have 2 rows of 10 pins in the top left corner, the only indication of having anything related to 2 rows of 5 is in the bottom right corner just below the CTB08Dg3-V4 stamp but it just looks like solder points, no pins. I'm starting to think that we're talking about 2 different boards here. Please advise if the link above doesn't work and I'll try to get another pic up.
