Just got a couple units in

Hello all,

Just got a couple of used units in.  Currently wiring them into weather proof boxes.  Had some questions after reading the documents -

I am assuming that these devices are going to be hot neutral specific?  So I will need to make sure that when I hook the 16 connectors back in I need to make sure that I have the orientation right?

I see people talking about serial connectors, USB and Ethernet cables.  Are all referring to using a serial port adapter through a USB port and using an Ethernet cable or can this unit be hooked up through the LAN port on a PC?

I am hoping to pick up the license version of the software next week so I hope to up and testing here shortly.

Thanks,

Jim

You didn't say what kind of units you got, but for the typical LOR brand controller, you need a USBRS485 adapter connected to your computer.  From the adapter to the controller you need CAT5 cable.  You can not plug directly to the LAN port on the computer.

UNSOLICITED SUGGESTION:

Much can be learned by clicking the "Typical Setups" link at the top of this page.

The link to "Video Tutorials" also allows you to access some helpful/valuable/invaluable information.

Thanks.  I had been looking at them and they are part of what caused the confusion.  From the simple configuration -

3.  Your personal computer communicates to the controllers using a device plugged into your computer’s serial or USB communications port.  The blue line shows the standard serial output of your computer (RS-232 or USB) out of your PC where it enters our converter that transforms the signal to the native Light-O-Rama network protocol (the green line) that connects to our various types of controllers over standard computer network wire.  We recommend Cat 5 LAN cables available from us and off-the-shelf from your local big box store in the computer section.

You can get a starter package that has the sw and USB device that I will call a dongle.

Cat 5 out of dongle to LOR controller. You can then daisy chain with cat 5 from one controller to the next or any device that is on the LOR network. The dongle has a USB cable to plugs into any USB port on your PC. Configured as a comm port that you need to setup in LOR sw to control the LOR devices.

You can also purchase the dongle seperate.

LOR sells 2 varieties. High speed and normal. Depending on the age of your controllers high speed may not work at high speed but it will still function. If you plan on expanding the high speed might be the best investment.

Thanks.

I knew there were packages for the controllers and software but I didn't see the set you showed.

Just what I need next week.

FYI.....  We only sell the Generic Starter Package if you also purchase a controller at the same time.  If you are not ordering a controller at the same time, you'll need to purchase the items in the starter kit individually (including the software).

IMPORTANTThis starter package MUST be purchased with a controller or kit.
** Basic Software License is free only with the purchase of this package and a controller or kit.
