In a very short time Home Depot will have their green Christmas lights in stock.

I have already budgeted to pay full price for a few cases.

I was only able to score one box Dec.26, 2013 at all of the HD I went too after Christmas.

While I was at the first HD at 0700, I had them check the surrounding stores for inventory and all the greens were sold out.

So to make the show come together, I will be paying the price this year.

I don't mean to be a simpleton, but after your Home Depot disappointment why didn't you just take advantage of any of the leading vendor's pre-season sales that were either going on or imminently beginning? You can say "Knock, Knock Puddin' Head" if I missed something, but wouldn't you have better quality, lower priced, and whatever style/quantity of green LEDs you desired already sitting on one of those shelves full of lights in your shed?

It is hard to beat 50% off.

And you are right. I do buy a lot on line.

But if I am paying full price for Christmas lights and they don't work, it is easier to get a refund from the local HD than boxing them up and shipping them back.

I am not sure about the better quality.

It all comes from China.

I think it is hit or miss if you get good quality.

I have 50% off Wal-Mart lights which have been going strong for seven years now.

If we don't spend some money locally, our local businesses and jobs will eventually go away.

For the benefit of newbies reading this thread:

It's even harder to beat buying any quantity of any style LEDs you want for far less than 50% off HD or Wally World regular prices.

In my experience, which admittedly covers just the past six years or so, I've had only a couple of sets of lights from (reputable) online vendors arrive DOA. Never yet has one required me to return the lights before immediately sending a replacement. And I've found that a phone call is definitely quicker and cheaper than taking a 20 mile round trip for a refund.

As for the issue of quality, you undermine your own credibility by equating the quality of half-wave retail lights with replaceable bulbs to full-wave lights with sealed bulbs from online vendors. Those of us with more experience know better. My Timex watch has been going strong for over a decade, but I've never confused it with a Rolex.

And while I support local businesses who've earned my loyalty, I don't have the financial largesse to, for example, pay $7.95 to a local hardware store for a bag of 100 zip ties that I can buy online (with free shipping) for $1.00.

Just saying...

Your right, It's certainly hard to pass up 50% off.........But I have to agree with George most of the reputable on line Christmas Vendors here are great,.

I placed my pre-season sale this past winter and I mentioned to Paul that 6 of my C9 Retrofit bulbs quit working and that I had noticed corrosion after removing the lens AND that this was my 3rd season using them and just left it at that ......When my order arrived LO and Behold there was a box of 25 C9's at No charge.  That's customer service that can't be beat IMO........

I'm also an avid believer in buying Local and American made products whenever possible  but I also don't think HD or any of my local big box stores would shut their doors because they lost the sale of some Christmas lights..........Just my 2 cents!!

Hey Caniac...I didn't get any response so I bit the bullet and bought 2 cases of M5's from CDI at 25% off.
