aaronwilmoth80911
I'm a bit confused on sequences. Judging by most of the conversation around here, I assume that a lot of you make your own sequences. For my first time, I am wanting to stick with pre-made sequences, but there is a bit of confusion about them. Are premade sequences a light and music show already premade so that all I have to do is figure what lights I am going to put on certain channels? Or are premade sequences ones that I have to add music to? Or is it music that I have to add lighting to? I tried searching around for this answer, but have not had any luck in finding a definitive answer. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!!! Thanks!!!Go to WOWlights website and go to there sequence section. The upper half are sequences with music and the lower half is sequence that you have to buy the music for. Most of there sequences are 16,32,64,128 channels sequences. You can click on anyone of them and it will play a sample. They also show you the channel configuration and layout that they did. This might give you ideas on how you want to layout out yours for the first year.
godman
Premade sequences consist of a sequence that was created using a certain song. However copyright law says you must own the music (MP3) to be able to play it. So, sequences (the animated lights) are created around a certain song but the song is generally not included with the sequence, You must purchase the song separately, Generally the company your buying the sequence from will have a link to the song (amazon, I tunes etc) or at least let you know what version of the song its sequenced for. (A sequence is the animation of the lights) With that said allot of people do include the MP3 with their sequence if your purchasing from a private party etc, but generally not from places like LOR or WOW lights or others. Once you purchase the sequence you import it into the Sequencer, link the song (media file) to the sequence and then all you need to do is hook up your lights to the appropriate channel on the controller and your good to go. If you need some samples sequences, give me a PM and ill do hat I can to help you out, So to answer your Yes, for a premade sequence to work you will have to add the music Edited June 5, 2014 by godman
aaronwilmoth80911
Thanks very much! That clears a bit of the fog out for now. I am ordering my controllers before this weekend so I can try to get as much done as possible before the summer is over. I work for a school district, have 3 kids, and have gone back to school myself, so when August/September rolls around, life gets hectic.

If you have a choice, don't wait till later to start the sequencing. You sort of need to be doing it or starting it now. It also depends on the number of channels/devices you are sequencing as opposed to the number of songs. If only a few songs, then you can probably wait but if you are doing a lot of songs, then need to start now or soon.
taybrynn
There are also folks who will sequence for you .... Usually a per hour fee ... For 16-32 channels is nothing for them and they can get a little more creative for your setup.
caniac
Thanks very much! That clears a bit of the fog out for now. I work for a school district, have 3 kids, and have gone back to school myself, so when August/September rolls around, life gets hectic. the first year I started in addition to getting my controllers from WoWLights I also got a half dozen sequences. The first year I sorta tried to match my setup to theirs but after than I started playing around. when I went to build my arches I used the wrong size of PVC so I couldn't get it to bend, those quickly became fire sticks. From there I started changing things and changing sequences to what I wanted it to be.
jrock_at_rons
As I've been teaching myself sequencing, I've found it super helpful to use donated/free sequences to help me figure out the timing for a certain song. Once you can figure that out, then its a lot of fun to set your own house lights to the timings. So far I've got 11.5 minutes of complete sequences. Much was done 100% by myself, but I have been able to scrape timings from a song or two to help me along the way.

Something even more helpful would be to use the Beat Wizard.
