Admired
This will be my first year joining your madness. I did start out by buying 4 LOR controllers and adv. licence during the mad grab sale. Also i picked up 3 TinyPix controllers today ( which i want to use for the arches). My question is does anyone know a pretty cheap place to buy the smart / pixel nodes. Even if i have to solder them its no bid deal as i am quite fluent in soldering. I know i have to get a power supply but found them on ebay rather cheap. So if anyone knows a cheap place to get the lights please let me know. Thanks in advance. Ed
Jim Hans
Welcome to the madness Ed! While I can't answer your direct question, one thing that did pop into my head as I read your post was "WOW.... he has a lot of work in front of him over the next 5 months". 4 controllers plus pixels.... that's A LOT of sequencing not to mention building things etc. So as to not stress out I would highly suggest you do a lot of reading here on all that is involved in getting what you want done by Christmas and then triple the number of hours you think you need. I truly wish you the best and don't want you to stress out on this great hobby....
Robocrash
Here's a link to Ray Wu's store in China. Great prices - but assume 3-6 weeks for delivery: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/701799 I've got a couple of these strings for my roofline as a newbie this year. Already have them mounted and running on a SanDevices controller. Easy Peasy: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/promotion-WS2811-IP68-led-pixel-module-256scale-gray-IP68-3wire-red-blue-black-DC5V-input-50pcs/469177597.html Hope that helps dave
sax
Ray is great place to order. Send him a message and he will reduce shipping and upgrade it. FedEx seems to be slow from his spot as they apparently get overwhelmed with orders. DHL has always been 2 day shipping from china to here in Portland. And like I said, send Ray a message asking for shipping quote using DHL and it will be cheaper than listed and come much quicker than 2-6 weeks. Count on less than a week. Admired
Thanks for the warm welcome. I just decided to buy 2 http://www.holidaycoro.com/Smart-Pixel-LED-RGB-Strip-30-LEDs-m-50-Pixels-m-p/700.htm to do the arches with. Price seems good so we will see how it turns out. Now just to find a fairly cheap dongle and power supply. I seen on a few websites them using old desktop power supply's. Just don't know how reliable they would be.
