DMX playback (need help)

I have a commercial job that I am doing that is going to require a way for me to play back a fairly long sequence (30-60min) in a continuous loop.  There will be 4 universes of DMX of control required.

The plan is to program it with S3 then use some sort of playback device to accomplish the task.   I also need to load a second loop that will run one time thru after being triggered via a set of contacts.  The primary loop would fade out and the secondary loop would play once, then return to the continuous loop.

I thought about the MP3 Director but I don't think it will work in the DMX world without IDMX boxes.  I can't use Arduino stuff because I need something that is commercially available.

Anyone have any product ideas?  Oh yeah.. it is going to be in Canada.   Needs to be small and compact.

Laptops are so cheap now....use that? Also load a program so you can remote in if internet connection is avail.

If you go the mp3 director route....need 4 iDMX's and only 128chs of each are intelligent

Can't use a laptop.. not small nor reliable for long term usage.  Hard drives fail.  But the big part is size.  The IDMX units are about the right size, but pretty costly way to go.  They are supposed to be able to do 512 channels now.. so if I have to go that way it may work... not sure..

Not a commercial product but this might be an option.

Correct, not a commercial product.  Don't know it they would allow it in Canada due to lack of RF testing.

Try the iDMX1000 and an InputPup.

I use the iDMX1000 many times for a turnkey DMX show (without music) and it might respond to input triggers from the InputPup.

Let me know if you want to try these out; I have spares.

Hi Ken,

I actually ordered 4 iDMX units and one MP3/G3 Director.   There isn't enough memory in the iDMX units and the way it is accessed won't work for this application.

This may be a perfect candidate for Raspberry Phi.    A lot of people are having great sucess with them.  Completely replaces the computer and is very small and inexpensive.  You import your sequnce from LOR into Xlights then export it to a memory card in the Phi language (can't remember what it is called at the moment).  The phi has its own scheduler and is totall solid state. Very fast and since the sequence is coverted to a more efficiant language very large capasity.

One who has been using it is Sean from Nutcracker ( and of course others but his name comes to mind).

I will  be ussing this for a remote display this year.

Jerrrymac,

Been down the Pi road already.  Not going to work for my application.  But thanks for the suggestion.
