S3 Sequence Software Running Slow

Last year, I ran S3 using 32 light o rama channels and an additional 100 dmx channels.  Everything worked well.  This year I've added pixels and have up my channel count to 32 AC channels, 100 dmx channels, and 2500 channels on E1.31.  With these changes, S3 is running drastically slower and the visualizer completely bogs down (ie significant lag) when I attempt to play a sequence.  Am I doing something wrong.  My computer is only average (Intel I5 2.60 ghz) but I think it should be sufficient for what I'm attempting to do.  Anyway, is there any way to speed up S3?  Getting pretty tired of the attempting to cut and past with a 5 second lag time....

Had the same thing happen to me when I added 2560 pixel channels. I was using a 4 gb ram window 7 machine. I bought a new machine and put 16 gb of ram in it and I don't have that problem now. You might bump up your ram and see if that helps. That's what I wanted to do, but my laptop was maxed out.

That appears to be the problem.  I only have 4GB of ram installed!?!  No wonder its running slow.  An upgrade to 16gb should work wonders.

Also, if you're still using 3.7 like your avatar says, you might want to up it to the latest release. I ran a little over 6000 channels during sequencing on a dual core with 4 gb RAM. I had no significant lag with that many channels. Now, my show ran on an i7 with 6 gb RAM.

There have been some significant improvements with the software over the last little bit and Dan has stated in a post or two, that a major change is coming soon, see this post: http://forums.lightorama.com/index.php?/topic/30929-lor-all-bs-aside-time-to-answer-the-questions/?p=285046

This is what the folks who want to stay with LOR wanted to hear. Some are ready to jump ship and that's fine, but I'm staying with LOR. I have full confidence in LOR and I have from the beginning.

Try updating your software to the latest version if you haven't already. If your license doesn't go that high, and you want to stay, I suggest updating the license.

On a side note, but still talking about S3, and take this with a grain of salt because I have zero facts to back it up. IMHO and my gut feeling is telling me we will be getting a major re-write. The reason I make this statement is, the LOR Devs have been eerily quiet on the forums as of late. Last year sometime, it seemed like they all disappeared. My gut feeling tells me they have been hard at work on a major re-write.

Again though, I have zero facts to back this statement up. It's just a gut feeling. We will see soon I hope.

I've been having the same slow, out of sync problem with S3 lately. Even with a brand new computer and new graphics card, S3 and visualizer run slowww.

Uninstalled and re-installed S3; no difference

What I found;  if I create a brand new sequence using the same song/mp3, and copy and past my old timings, everything works fine in the newly created sequence. All the timings are accurate, and the visualizer works great

S3 was running well until I added 2 CMB24D controllers.  Now if I spend any time sequencing, I have to shut down and restart windows otherwise it seems like it is locked up.  I say seems like it locked up because I can't do anything, everything is greyed out and I can't click on anything other than the X in the upper right.  When I hit the X it does ask me if I want to save.  Thankfully.     I am running the latest release and I am am running visualizer while I sequence.

Well, expanding the RAM didn't work.  LOR better develop some new software...and soon.  S3 clearly was not designed for pixels which makes you wonder why in the world its made to run E1.31.  Very disappointed.

I may have too many programs running on my computer as well.  So I may end up switching to another machine.  However, I'm not going to switch to a new sequencer.  I tried a trial of Light Show Pro and found it to be complicated an not very intuitive.

I just use my new computer for sequencing and running my show. I don't have anything else running on it and most of the time, it's not even connected to the wifi.

Are you SURE you have all your switches and routers properly configured to run your E131?  Are you POSITIVE you've done things like set your routing metrics the right way?  Have you looked in the E1.31 forum for additional things you may be missing?

E1.31 is not as simple as just putting a few E1.31 to DMX bridges on a LAN.  It may require in-depth expert knowledge of networks, network topologies, routing, and the like.
