plasmadrive Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Assuming LOR is not going to answer the questions I asked of them.. (if they do that would be better of course)... but just assuming they are not going to... Madrix or HLS or something else? Is Madrix worth the $$ Anyone try them both? Got any better ideas? Nutcracker does seem good but not good enough to do precise time line stuff like I want to do and LOR won't handle the high pixel counts it seems.. so I am looking for recommendations from those that actually know from experience. Anybody??
robo Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I also wish LOR would step up their game. I'm using 2 visualizers because my pixels maxed out their fixture limit. Not sure how much longer I can stay with their software. I'm over 13 universes now. Next year might be the last year with LOR. HLS or Xlights are the main free options.
dougd Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 What does larger pixel count mean to you? I used LOR with 18,500 channels this past year, it worked great. I am not sure where the idea comes from that there is better sofware out there that is any better then S3 when it comes to high pixel counts, Possibly Madrix, but this is still a hobby to me and that goes way past the dollar amount for a hobby. All the better videos I watched this past season were all LOR driven.
shfr26 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Have you looked at LSP?, I think that is the name. I do not use pixels or universes but I will check some other emails and find out. It appears LOR is not going to answer this because it has been posted in several different threads and I do not believe there has been any reply.

My plan is to add about 15k this year and I already run 3300 and about 300 LOR channels.. I see so many people struggling with S3 that I really can't afford the time to deal with problems. I understand Madrix is $$.. but consider that some of us are spending $$$ on props and lights and so on.. perhaps the investment in the software is worth it. I don't know. That is why I am asking for someone to give their opinion that has actually used the other software packages.
dougd Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Well money was spent on LSP last year, that was just a different set of problems. I don't see LSP in my future. Tried one of the free ones, whole different set of problems. So I decided to make LOR work. I got creative with some hardware grouping, at one point last year I was at 22,000 channels. The 4 gig patch is a must, very easy to do. Taking advantage of some of the 3rd party tools is a must. This year I am adding quite a few pixels, channel count is at 17,500 channels. I am using more hardware grouping this year. Sometimes you just dont need to control every pixel in string, as an example I have 24 6 foot trees with 64 pixels each on them. I did a hardware grouping of 4 so the LOR software sees them as having 16 pixels each, I just dont need more control then that. just becomes a waste of channels. I have drawn my entire display as CCR's so I am able to visualize everything. Saving a sequence is working much better with the newest update. Importing in a channel config is still the biggest time waster, luckily it is just done 1 time per sequence. This is going to be my 9th year with LOR, I am finding ways to make it work, not jump ship. Hoping to use superstar more this year, time will tell how that works out. I still would love some new features for this year like everyone else, I guess we will just have to wait and see if that happens.
LightORamaDan Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 We will be making some major enhancements to the software this year that will provide enhanced support for the higher pixel counts. I do not have specifics available but it will be a significant change. I will be able to provide more specifics in a couple weeks.
plasmadrive Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Great news! Seems I will be sticking with LOR... That is and was my preference.. But I personally needed to know to move forward with my display changes.... Seems it will be viable with LOR. Thanks for stepping up with the answer Dan.
robo Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 That is fantastic news! Looking forward to the details! Thanks LOR for listening!
Tim Fischer Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Where is the "Like" button on Dan's post?? I need to click it a few dozen times!
Aaron Maue Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I wanted to "like" Dan's post as well as Tim's, but I've reached my quota. So, consider this my "like". I anxiously await the news.

I use HLS and in my view is a much more powerful sequencer than LOR S*. Oh and did I mention HLS is FREE .
stephen walker Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I use Madrix to run my 15' smart pixel christmas tree because I love how easy it is to give me amazing effects, many of then music activated! My LOR S3 sends commands to Madrix telling it what effect to run, the speed, intensity, and controls fades, you name it. They work great together! I love my LOR software and will never give it up. It gets better every year!!!!!!
smeighan Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Madrix effects are awesome! The ability to modify any of their slider and change the effects is great. They have music or video as sources to create effects.
