Santas Helper
Oklahoma City and the metro area are in the bulls eye for the heaviest stuff thru Saturday. This is NOT good. Looks like it will effect more states in the coming day or so.Shutting down the show to keep from damage to lights and such. To the others effected, Be careful!!! Papa6058
Being relatively new to this, how does shutting down the show help protect the lights Papa
MikeH
I'm keeping mine on. I haven't had any problems with moisture (rain, sleet or snow) in the past 3 - 4 years. Worst thing that happened was we lost power in the city. Oh, and I had a GFCI trip once. Guess I've been lucky. I also put my controllers in plastic trash bags. we'll see what happens this weekend. scubado
We're supposed to get 6-10" of heavy snow Saturday night. Earlier in the week we were supposed to get Maaaybe 1" of snow, we got 2.5". Last night we were supposed to get .1" of ice rain, we got about .2". I hope the trend doesn't continue...
MikeH
Around here it's hit or miss. The weather person will say we're supposed to get about .5 of sleet or ice. Sometimes we get nothing. I guess that's good for us. MikeH
Santas Helper
With my LED floods and such, I prefer to shut down to keep from possible triac or other problems. I know these things can effect electronic components thru wet connections and its not worth it.Plus, nobody needs to be seeing lights in icey conditions. They need to be home. Mike G
I've shut mine down in Yukon. I don't get much traffic anyway but I feel better without stuff being powered up. Gives me a chance to finish up a song I've been working on and add it for tomorrow night.
Papa6058
I will follow suit and turn mine off during icy conditions. Papa
indi
It has moved into Missouri. I'll wait and see how bad it gets before I decide if I'll leave to power on or not. The last ice and snow got into the plugs and tripped the GFI breaker. Happy about that.

indi
Looks like no show tonight. Ice has built up on my connections. I went out earlier and knocked the ice off , but it is almost show time so I ran the Hardware utility and it didn't find some of my controllers. Went out and checked and one of the GFI breakers has tripped. No use in trying to clear out the connections as it is raining a freezing. Hopefully I can fix it tomorrow. dbltrukr1
Boom boom out go the lights.... Freezing rain and now 5" of snow tripped the GFCI on 2 controllers. Shut down the show for the night and recorded a quick "bad weather killed the lights" message and cued it up on Zara to run tonight. I should have time to dig out everything tomorrow and get things going again.
Karenwatt
We got a little ice and snow here in the lower Texas Panhandle, didn't stop the light show, but Charlie Brown and Snoopy sure took it hard:

Santas Helper
We got around .50 to .75 inches of ice and luckily haven't lost power although several thousand in and around our area are without power.I can only imagine 1 to 1.5 inches of ice. That is crippling to the power lines.
