I've got a Buzz (Ramsey FM100B)

I have a Ramsey FM 100-B since I started this many years ago.  It has abuzz that really annoys me.  I have read that it is the power supply and that it needs to be replaced.  Great.  Can anyone please tell me what type of power supply to buy and where you got yours.  It must be the ps because I've tried everything else.

Thanks

If it did it was very slight.  I really noticed it last year, and this year is worse.  I've used different sources to make sure that it was not the computer or a cable or something like that.  I have read where others have stated that the PS on the Ramsey's or noted for that.  I've had it since 2008. I was going to talk to Glenn, from Christmas in Cruces, that is who I bought it from but I see his web site is gone.

I have a Ramsey's and noticed a slight buzz a year or so ago, I adjusted the choke on plug in a little father away and it fix it. I don't know for sure but that might be your problem  Mel

I got a choke last year and it did not make a difference for me.  Tried moving it in different positions as well. Thanks for the suggestion though.  It's always worth a try!!

I know a number of people with the models with external power supplies have done better with different power supplies. I don't remember seeing that for the 100b though.

Have you tried either ensuring all your grounds are firmly tied together? Or a ground loop isolator on the audio path? Or both?

Glad you put the  (Ramsey FM)  behind that Title.  My mind so going to go somewhere else.   Come on people, you know you were thinking it too.

All grounds look good, as far as I can tell. The problem appears  to be getting worse as time goes on.  And I have a choke on the power line and not the audio, but have tried different audio cords.

Can you try it on another computer? I had water in my J-Pole causing me some hum and went back to factory antenna.

Well, the current computer is one that I built about 10 months ago for this hobby. Last year was a different computer.  I might add that I have both a Tru Match antenna as well at the telescoping stock and it happens with both.

Does it have the buzz with no input connected? If not, I would strongly recommend trying a ground loop isolator. I use one as the first cable plugged into the 100b every time I use it.

I had a buzz in mine but only when the power is hit hard.  I played with the audio levels and output levels on the transmitter to help a little.  With no complete success I ran an extension cord to the neighbors and I'm using his power to run my show computer.  Audio is now crystal clear.

That's the ticket. Thanks klb.  I did not think of that.  With only the radio I have a slight buzz, but it is nothing compared to the other.  I have a choke on the power cord of the radio, where should I try the loop isolator and what one are you using. If you had good luck with yours I want to use the same one.  Thanks again for you help!!!

That's funny, I love it!!  My line level on the radio is set at 30%.

I've owned several. I think the current one, and one I have used most often is Radio shack 270-054

Awesome!  I'll let you know what I find out.  Thanks again for the help.  Merry Christmas!!

Sometime the buzz noise is because the power supply, if you can replace the power supply and I think the buzz problem will disappear

The 100b has an internal power supply. I generally suggest working through the other possibilities before opening up the case, figuring out voltages and currents required, finding a supply that works and fits, and then figuring how to mount it, and wire it all up.

Heck, I might even replace the electrolytic caps in the existing supply before I replaced the existing supply.
