What was going on with the website last night?

So does anyone know what was going on with the LOR website (including the forum) last night?  For anyone who did not try to go onto the LOR website or forum last night (4 December), it was unreachable - and it wasn't a problem with the website itself.  This is what I observed:

About 7:00 PM Pacific time, I attempted to look at the forum via tapatalk on my phone and it said it could not connect to the server.  Hmmmm.

A while later I attempted to access the forum on my desktop PC and it also could not find the website.  Then I opened a command prompt and attempted to ping lightorama.com and ping could not find a host of lightorama.com (meaning it could not find a DNS entry for lightorama.com).  OK, now this is getting strange.  Just to make sure this was not something only affecting me or my ISP (although I had tried using my phone on Verizon Wireless, and my desktop on DSL Extreme), I remoted into my work computer and was able to access the forum just fine - although I noted that the newest entry on the forum was almost 3 hours old (which is practically unheard of this time of year).  I looked at several messages that I had never looked at before to make sure I was not seeing cached data (I wasn't).  I was going to post an earlier version of this message, but apparently my DNS cache entry timed out because I could no longer access the forum.  Now being confident this was a DNS issue, I did a DNS lookup on several on-line DNS lookup services.  Except for the domain registrar that LOR uses, NONE could find any reference to lightorama.com.  The domain registrar that LOR uses had valid domain information including the primary and secondary name servers.  I attempted to ping both of the name servers and both responded.  It was getting late and I needed to get to bed, so I quit there...

Anyone know if there was a DNS outage last night??

There was an issue last night, yes. In theory it shouldn't have affected the forums, as they are on a different host than the website/store.

However if the issue had cascading effects into the DNS entries then people would have been unable to reach the forums.

(And please, don't ask me what the issue was. I just know "an issue")

Glad to know the issue wasn't caused by my internet provider. I too experienced the same issues here in So. Calif.

Thanks for the update.

Strange, I was off and on the forums from that time frame 10pm-1am EST and I never experienced any issues at all during that time frame.  Didn't try to go to the LOR main website, so can't say anything about that.    But I could access the forums.
