dgrant Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I've noticed recently that I'll come back to these forums to find myself, already logged in, even though I know I logged out. If it was just once or twice, sure, I might have forgotten, but I've seen this 20-30 times now so I think something is up with LOR's server too.
a31ford Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The logged in thing will be more so how your browser (IE, Firefox, Google, etc.) handles your cookies, AND, if you where asked (by your browser at any point), to save your password for this site (the forum). Cookies can be a PITA when it comes to personal security OR. they can be a PITA for sites that are not so important for security (There's nothing really personal in these forums, not like banking information or taxes and such, I would classify the forums as low, whereas your online bank, high. Another not so common problem is stupid WINDOWS if restarted will sometimes revert to "Last known good configuration" even on it's own (without pressing "F8" during startup). when WINDOZE (spelt correctly) does this, the last known good one is loaded (that can be as far back in time as the original installation of the operating system), SO, even though you have cleaned cookies and such, if windoze does this, it will revert to a "snapshot" of what cookies where in use during the day the last good config was, and use a registry embedded copy of THOSE cookies, for startup, there by re-sending (on your behalf) your password to the forum, when logging in...... SOLUTION ? Change ALL your passwords NOW, BUT, to prove it to yourself, change JUST, your password here, (in this LOR Forum), shut down your computer TWICE (this will clear cache) the first start up do NOT go to this forum, ONLY after the second startup, IF it logs you in without asking for your password, THEN you have BIGGER problems, (I would really seek looking into a complete wipe and reload, as there might be "OTHER" things going on in your computer). IF at the second startup, you need to put the new password in for the LOR forums, then the cookie for this site (the LOR forum) has been successfully flushed, HOWEVER, I would look into changing passwords for sensitive (High) ( like banking) sites also... DO some RESEARCH on how passwords are saved in a computer, you might get quite the scare as to what can happen if not handled correctly..... What I'm saying is don't trust me.... make SURE, you understand what is going on, with your cookies in your computer....... Greg Manning, Retired network engineer EDS.

Don Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I've noticed recently that I'll come back to these forums to find myself, already logged in, even though I know I logged out. If it was just once or twice, sure, I might have forgotten, but I've seen this 20-30 times now so I think something is up with LOR's server too.Given that I'm switching between two accounts (this, and my regular user account) I might be a little more in tune with the server than some. To date, I've not noticed anything like this. When log out, I'm logged out. Haven't noticed it keeping me logged in to either account. In addition to the other posts in the thread, make sure you don't have any programs like LastPass set to log you in automatically. If you do, that would explain some of the events you've been seeing.
dgrant Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Actually, I dump all temporary internet files every time I log out of any browser. I do not use any password storage of any programs. I'm very careful about my computer security as I'm one of those "go-to" people when a computer dies massively. Just so happens, when I went to these forums again just now to see any updates on threads, it once again, showed me already logged in. In this case, its Windows 7, 64bit, but I don't experience this issue on any other websites. Again, I don't allow any program to auto-store passwords or automatically log me in.
dgrant Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Happened again just now. I'm thinking that its not actually logging me out even though it says it did.
Don Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Happened again just now. I'm thinking that its not actually logging me out even though it says it did. I wish I could duplicate it, but so far I've been unable to. I've tried many different browsers and computers. Every time I log out, it stays logged out until I log in again.
dgrant Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Here it is Sunday morning now and I just came here to the forums and finding myself logged in again even though I had not gotten to that point. This was following a full bootup from a powered off condition this morning. I know I'm not crazy and I'm very computer literate and very conscience about computer security.

This was following a full bootup from a powered off condition this morning. I know I'm not crazy and I'm very computer literate and very conscience about computer security.I'm not doubting your computer skills, questioning your computer literacy or doubting your computer security views. However, between 3 physical machines, just as many (if not more) virtual machines testing with IE, Chrome and Firefox, and between two different accounts on the forums I am unable to duplicate this. When (or If) I'm able to duplicate it, I will be able to begin troubleshooting. Until then there isn't much I can do.
George Simmons Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 This same type of thing happens with me too. On my desktop pc I have to manually log in. Unless and until I do so I'm not logged in. On Sharon's laptop PC, however, any time I click on the LOR shortcut, which directs me to the new content screen - I'm logged in automatically. On my pc I deleted the LOR cookies and used the registry wipe tool before downloading 3.10.12. On Sharon's laptop, I also deleted all LOR cookies, but didn't do the registry wipe. Could that be the difference maker?
TonyD Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 This is a long shot - (in Windows 7) click Start and enter Credential in the search box.Start Credential ManagerDo you see any account information that might be related to the LOR site? If so i'd delete it.
dgrant Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Thanks for the idea, but the credential manager was clear. I checked the shortcut that I use to get here easily and it too was just the plain shortcut with no add-ons. It happened again as brought the computer out of hybernation but earlier this morning, it was a formal reboot and I was still logged in. I appreciate your efforts, all and especially LORAdmin. Sure has me baffled.
dgrant Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 I may have found a clue to this issue. Normally I use the AOL browser to access this site. I cleared its cache memory and now it seems "not" be logging me in automatically.
