Plasma Icicles and the Wind

Well yesterday we had a serious wind.  I was confident that the icicles would do ok and it appears they did fine.  As of last night just before the wind started to die down I was running testing programs and they did great.  They blew around a bit, but not too badly because the profile is pretty small and since they flex, they don't seem to create such a wind sail.

This wind was strong enough to make me stop putting lights on my redwoods because they would not hold still regardless of how I yelled at them.... and my ladders kept blowing over.  Boxes where flying everywhere.  Light bags... well they didn't have a chance.. If I accidently let go, they would be half a mile in seconds.   Just had to stop.  But the icicles survived.. at least when I went to bed.... still dark out there..

I use some cheap plastic icycle hanging things that attach directly onto the LED, from BigLots, which work beautifully btw, but the wind will pick them up and flop them over onto the roof. Last year, I had to get out the big ladder a couple of times to fix them during the season. So far, I've not found a way to keep them down. I suppose I could hard mount something like a coat-hanger to the eves and zip-tie the icycles to them. Still considering possibilities there.

Outstanding ...

I took at a look at all the photos and videos in the dropbox and have to say .. KUDOS!!

The soldering of two wires to each of the pads is a feat of skill bordering on incedible.

What are you us using to sequence them? Some of the viewed effects are really cool ..

Thanks for sharing ..

Thanks Bob,

I am actually using both LOR and xlights (Nutcracker).  The overall effects like the fire and twinkle are created in xlights and exported as a clipboard to LOR.  The timed sequences like the chase of the peaks are done 100% in LOR.  I can't figure out any way to do them in xlights with the precision needed.
