Controllers missing (stolen?)

Recommended Posts

I went out to the storage shed to start testing controllers and lights and found that 10 controllers are missing. I don't know what I am going to do for this year because it will be expensive to replace all these units. I was thinking of finding some assembled Renards but I would rather keep using LOR because I know them better. E bay is too expensive because I would just buy a new card assembled and add my own dongles and enclosure before I did that. If anyone has controllers they are not using, please pm me a price. It doesn't matter if they are V1, they work fine for what I need. Thanks in advance, Kevin

Contact your local news agency. Stories about thieving grinches may bring out the giving side of your community. You might have a person out there who has watched your display for years who will want to donate to help make it happen this year. I know its no consolation, but I do believe you are the first to ever have a large number of controllers stollen. hopefully things will come together so it will happen this year.

Like this idea.  You have a following of people that will make it happen.   Post a news story link if it happens !

Good idea, I will try it.  I still have to try to find some descent priced controllers incase there is not any one locally willing to help. If I could find a couple a week until Thanksgiving, I should be ok.

I'm sorry to hear that this "new forum user" had 10 controller stolen from his shed and his renter's insurance did not cover his contents. Maybe if he just had some picture to provide to the insurance company as proof that is actually own this type of equipment.

A lesson to us all. Make sure that you take pictures of your display so this won't happen to you.

Maybe you could contact craigslist and ask for references to any posts regarding those type of controllers in your area, from when you last saw them to now?

Hey friend, I have a back-up controller I'll let you use for the season if you like. Once I get everything pulled out, I may actually have another one.

I'm thinking of selling off a few of mine, but it will be after the season, since I have at least 4 to be in use this year.

Let me know something.

Ron

edit:

I have a buddy in NJ said he'd help out with one too. If you want that one, I'll have him ship it to me and we'll get together and get them to you. There's 3 out of 10. Let me check with a couple of my other contacts here in TN and see if they have a spare or 2

Scott according to this new forum I am a new forum user as well. I originally joined this forum in 2009 but could not get my password to reset when the forum was upgraded. I have 13 controllers. Just saying.

Strange, when I rented an apartment for a short term, didn't have any controllers stolen, but renters insurance would have replaced them if it happened.

This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone having any controllers stolen, but like Bob posted, are you sure you don't remember selling some off?

In the two urls he lists in his post, you show you sold a total of 6 controllers because you said you found you wouldn't need them.   Seems now you found out you did need them.

But if they were actually stolen and not sold, you have a police report and had taken photo's of the controllers, your renters insurance should have taken care of this.   This is why every year I take photo's of where my controllers are mounted at in my display.     Just in case, but I have never had a controller stolen and to be honest, this is the first time I can think of I've ever heard someone say they have had any controllers stolen.

Most of us may suffer damage to light strands, props, inflatables, etc. in the display, but usually the controllers aren't touched, but some joker may unplug and then plug in the cords randomly, making the display look silly and out of synch.   That I've read many times and on many forums, but this is definitely a first hearing a controller, and especially that many controllers were stolen, as most folks don't have any idea what they are and aren't useable without the LOR Software and hardware that helps make them work.

FYI - Talked with djr, and got his old account merged with his new one. If you noticed a sudden increase in the post count, this would be why.

Nice find Bob,  are you now changing your mind from your first post or still waiting the outcome?

I have no knowledge of whether this post is on the up and up or not. I know that none of us want to get scammed and I do not want to get scammed, either.

Just thought I'd mention a few things to think about.

1. Klomnech may only have a few posts, but he has been a member of this forum since 2009.

2. He did not ask for a handout, he asked if anyone had used ones they wanted to sell.

3. He said that he was missing 10 controllers, not all of them. If he was missing 16 controllers he'd be down 256 channels. But he only said he was missing 10.

4. How do we know the exclusions, electronics limits, or deductibles for his renters insurance?

5. He sold 6 controllers this year. And four of them were only boards. So unless he disassembled some of the enclosures, he had not been using them in his display.

PS I'd have fewer than 20 posts, of I did not flirt with Jim! :P

I don't have a horse in this race but found it odd when I first read the post that the OP listed the headline as "Controllers missing (stolen?)". One would think you'd know if you placed them in storage and they weren't there you'd be pretty sure they were stolen (without a ??). Did you recently move and forget a box somewhere?

Everything's a conspiracy theory, lol.

I'd be curious why renter's insurance didn't cover it, though.  I'd also be curious if the shed were locked, and if anything else was stolen.  It seems highly unlikely someone would break into a shed (or even wander into an unlocked one) and ONLY take some mysterious gray boxes with cords hanging out.

1st off, I am not trying to scam any one. How would that work if I am willing to buy them? Bob o, I sold them because I downsized some, if you take the ones I sold away from what I have(had), it comes up to 256. I just never changed my signature.I have lived in the same house for 4 years since we moved up here from Florida after we lost our company and our house, that is why we are renting our current house.I put missing or stolen because because they are MISSING OR STOLEN, not misplaced or lost. I have a police report, does every one want me to post it on here? We had some trouble last year, I had 2 discs replaced in my neck with a plate ,screws and a cage. Our renters insurance lapsed and we never renewed, along with other things, thus the downsizing. I went along with the insurance post because we feel embarrassed that our insurance lapsed and never renewed. Thanks Ron, I will get with you and give you a deposit so you won't think I am scamming you like almost all the other posts think. I still cannot believe what I read above, does almost everyone on here have such a skewed view of the world that they have to pick EVERYTHING apart to try to find a "SCAM". Unbelievable. To those of you that gave me constructive comments, thank you. To everyone that picked apart what I posted to find a scammer,  no words.................

I wasn't doubting you, and even made the "conspiracy theory" comment to poke fun at those who did.

My question still stands - was anything else in the shed stolen?  Were these in a place where they would be the first/only things taken?  Is it possible that there is some other explanation (e.g. someone borrowed them without asking)?

Tim Fischer, I have never locked my storage shed that I store my Christmas decorations in, never had to. The only things in there that looks like it is worth anything to anyone are the controllers. The last time I was in the shed was months ago, so I have no idea when it was broken into. Our neighborhood is a good neighborhood, i/e very little if any crime at all. That is why I never put a lock on it. I will keep answering questions for people with inquiring minds.

Please understand I'm not challenging you, just genuinely curious.

Sadly I don't think there's anywhere in the US I'd store stuff outside (I consider a shed outside) without locking it up.  I even have a "deck box" with some decor in it I put a padlock on.  It wouldn't keep someone determined out, but at least I'd see signs of forced entry, which helps with part of your problem - you don't know when it happened.

Sounds like you've had quite a year.  Sorry about all that's happened to you.

The more I think about it, I am not answering any more questions from the "inquiring mind conspiracy theorists", what I gave above is more than enough. In fact, I am rethinking my decision to start this thread.
