klomneck Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I went out to the storage shed to start testing controllers and lights and found that 10 controllers are missing. I don't know what I am going to do for this year because it will be expensive to replace all these units. I was thinking of finding some assembled Renards but I would rather keep using LOR because I know them better. E bay is too expensive because I would just buy a new card assembled and add my own dongles and enclosure before I did that. If anyone has controllers they are not using, please pm me a price. It doesn't matter if they are V1, they work fine for what I need. Thanks in advance, Kevin
plasmadrive Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Sorry to hear. that just sucks.. Got any pictures? since you made your own dongles perhaps they might show up for sale..
shfr26 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Sorry to hear that. If stolen, how about homeowners insurance?
klomneck Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 No pictures of them and we rent our house right now, so no homeowners ins. We have renters insurance but it will not cover these.
rainyoregonchristmas Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Contact your local news agency. Stories about thieving grinches may bring out the giving side of your community. You might have a person out there who has watched your display for years who will want to donate to help make it happen this year. I know its no consolation, but I do believe you are the first to ever have a large number of controllers stollen. hopefully things will come together so it will happen this year.

You have a following of people that will make it happen. Post a news story link if it happens !
klomneck Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) Good idea, I will try it. I still have to try to find some descent priced controllers incase there is not any one locally willing to help. If I could find a couple a week until Thanksgiving, I should be ok. Surfing4Dough Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Did you file a police report? Was the shed locked? Anything else missing? Surprised that the thieves even knew what they were.
Scott T Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm sorry to hear that this "new forum user" had 10 controller stolen from his shed and his renter's insurance did not cover his contents. Maybe if he just had some picture to provide to the insurance company as proof that is actually own this type of equipment.A lesson to us all. Make sure that you take pictures of your display so this won't happen to you.
dgrant Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Maybe you could contact craigslist and ask for references to any posts regarding those type of controllers in your area, from when you last saw them to now?
ItsMeBobO Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Did you forget you sold them? http://forums.lightorama.com/index.php?/topic/27338-4-lor-ctb16pcs-for-sale/?p=257764 sold 4 in July http://forums.lightorama.com/index.php?/topic/24336-2-ctb16ds-for-sale/?p=230208 sold 2 last november

If I could find a couple a week until Thanksgiving, I should be ok.Hey friend, I have a back-up controller I'll let you use for the season if you like. Once I get everything pulled out, I may actually have another one. I'm thinking of selling off a few of mine, but it will be after the season, since I have at least 4 to be in use this year. Let me know something. Ron edit:I have a buddy in NJ said he'd help out with one too. If you want that one, I'll have him ship it to me and we'll get together and get them to you. There's 3 out of 10. Let me check with a couple of my other contacts here in TN and see if they have a spare or 2 Edited October 21, 2013 by Ron Boyd

I originally joined this forum in 2009 but could not get my password to reset when the forum was upgraded. I have 13 controllers. Just saying.
Orville Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Strange, when I rented an apartment for a short term, didn't have any controllers stolen, but renters insurance would have replaced them if it happened. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone having any controllers stolen, but like Bob posted, are you sure you don't remember selling some off? In the two urls he lists in his post, you show you sold a total of 6 controllers because you said you found you wouldn't need them. Seems now you found out you did need them. But if they were actually stolen and not sold, you have a police report and had taken photo's of the controllers, your renters insurance should have taken care of this. This is why every year I take photo's of where my controllers are mounted at in my display. Just in case, but I have never had a controller stolen and to be honest, this is the first time I can think of I've ever heard someone say they have had any controllers stolen. Most of us may suffer damage to light strands, props, inflatables, etc. in the display, but usually the controllers aren't touched, but some joker may unplug and then plug in the cords randomly, making the display look silly and out of synch. That I've read many times and on many forums, but this is definitely a first hearing a controller, and especially that many controllers were stolen, as most folks don't have any idea what they are and aren't useable without the LOR Software and hardware that helps make them work.

FYI - Talked with djr, and got his old account merged with his new one. If you noticed a sudden increase in the post count, this would be why.

PaulXmas Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 And how does 10 controllers = 256 channels??(says the guy with one )
LORi P Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I have no knowledge of whether this post is on the up and up or not. I know that none of us want to get scammed and I do not want to get scammed, either.Just thought I'd mention a few things to think about.1. Klomnech may only have a few posts, but he has been a member of this forum since 2009.2. He did not ask for a handout, he asked if anyone had used ones they wanted to sell.3. He said that he was missing 10 controllers, not all of them. If he was missing 16 controllers he'd be down 256 channels. But he only said he was missing 10.4. How do we know the exclusions, electronics limits, or deductibles for his renters insurance? 5. He sold 6 controllers this year. And four of them were only boards. So unless he disassembled some of the enclosures, he had not been using them in his display.PS I'd have fewer than 20 posts, of I did not flirt with Jim! Edited October 21, 2013 by LORi P
LightsinMaine Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I don't have a horse in this race but found it odd when I first read the post that the OP listed the headline as "Controllers missing (stolen?)". One would think you'd know if you placed them in storage and they weren't there you'd be pretty sure they were stolen (without a ??). Did you recently move and forget a box somewhere? Tim Fischer Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Everything's a conspiracy theory, lol.I'd be curious why renter's insurance didn't cover it, though. I'd also be curious if the shed were locked, and if anything else was stolen. It seems highly unlikely someone would break into a shed (or even wander into an unlocked one) and ONLY take some mysterious gray boxes with cords hanging out.
