No Nutcracker tutorial this week...

There will be no xLights/Nutcracker tutorial this week. We will resume the following week. Also I will be gone to Puerto Vallarta for the week of Oct 11-18 so no tutorial on Oct 19th.

This week i need to get my heart checked out. I am having an angiogram in the morning. I have been having some slight chest pain and have been out of breath on my Boy Scout outings. The echo cardiogram showed something that they want to take a closer look.

 Wish me luck.

I should soon be back to working on finishing my Kitchen. I have laid 400 sq feet of 20x20" tile. We have put 2x2" mosiac tile embedded in the floor. So far, it looks awesome!

Remember, I need to finish the kitchen before i can make this years Christmas props. Happy wife, Happy Life.

So i hope to be back programming by next week.

thanks

Well, the angiogram results were not quite what I was hoping for. i have been scheduled for a quad bypass in nine days. I will need to stay in the hospital for seven days after the surgery. I will need to stay home when my family goes to puerto Vallarta on oct 11..

It will give me more time to work nutcracker :)

I am in fine spirits and appreciate the prayers

Sorry to hear about that and I hope the surgery and your recovery go smoothly. I suppose it's better to take care of this now rather than have a problem 5 miles in on a hike with your scouts. The amount of time and information you give to this group is amazing and very much appreciated.

I wish you well and speedy recovery.  Sorry about missing your vacation..

If you were closer I would help you finish your kitchen.. would be the least I could do for all the work on Nutcracker you have put in..

Sean,

Speaking from experience with a family member, we went to Atlanta, Ga and had the open heart surgery using the DaVinci robot assist surgery. They do bypass open heart with it also. She was out of the hospital in 3 days and back home to Tn in 6. Its worth a little research since yours is not emergency. No traditional Sternotimy (sp) either. 4 small incisions on the left breast and 2 for the bypass of the torso. She was up walking around in about 12 hours.

Prayers going out to you for a speedy recovery. Heal quick my friend.

Dear Sean,

Get well soon, and take time to recover.

Keep in mind that your personal health is a major issue, blinking lights are not.

Best wishes from The Netherlands

I'll say that was not what you were hoping for.

Good luck with the surgery Sean!  Look at the bright side (yes, there is one), you are getting the bypass BEFORE being on the floor (or dead) with a major heart attack!  That is the way to do it.

I have a calendar reminder to give you a prayer that morning.

Hi Jim; Here are a little more details

This was all a surprise to me. The only thing I had noticed was I got winded while hiking with my boys. Went to primary doctor, blood panel, blood pressure all normal. She suggested doing a stress cardiac echo test. Results from that were normal. Then went to cardiologist, he said he saw nothing in the stress test or blood tests but was concerned because of my family history (2 uncles and my father had 6 open heart surgeries).

I don't drink or smoke,  normal weight. He left it up to me if I wanted the  angiogram, the definitive test. I said I would like the angiogram so we could a base line for the future. I thought if they found a blockage , they could fix it with an angioplasty or a stent.

The cardiologist said afterwards that he had never seen a heart so blocked up (2 coronary arteries are 95% blocked) and not show any signs. He said my heart has grown lateral auxiliary arteries that have bypassed the blockages and kept my heart from serious damage, if the coronary arteries are 4" pipes, my heart grew 1/8th to 1/2" pipes to bypass the blockages (using scale of my coronary arteries of 4"). Not enough to give full cardiac function but enough to keep the heart healthy.

He thought I was heading for a major heart attack within the next 6 months. When the cardiac surgeon came in , he did not say would you like a bypass, he said we are scheduling a quad bypass in the next 7 days. I go in at 6am this friday, Sept 27th, Surgery will be from 9am to 2pm MST. I probably wont be able to post anything until sometime later letting all know i am ok.

I went in thinking maybe one artery was partially blocked to finding out all four are blocked so severly that stents won't work.

I am very lucky. I know the operation will be tough and a long recuperation period but I look forward to what it feels like to have a properly profused heart. This would also explain while I have not been able to hold notes for as long while playing the flute. My twin 12yo boys are in boy scouts. When they turn 14 they can do the toughest hike the scouts have, the Philmont , New Mexico 80 mile hike. I have a goal to make that hike in two years with them. I am 62 so still feel young.

Thanks for everyone's prayers
