If you want to have the lights doing any of the chasing / fading that the controller does, then you need to make sure it has memory. Memory meaning when it gets power it goes back to doing what it was before it lost power.Now for the most part I think all those controllers default to steady on so if thats all your going to do then you don't need to worry about it having memory.
