George Simmons Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 For anyone interested in finding genuine warm white LEDs, look no farther than CDI. I purchased lights from HLE this year and what they shipped as warm white wasn't. Even though the HLE staff (including the boss-man) were courteous and responsive, and even though they genuinely seem to believe what they shipped was warm white, it is actually antique white. Big difference. If you're a newbie, or someone using "warm white" for the first time and purchased them from HLE, and your lights look like a watered-down yellow, please be advised that what you have ISN'T warm white. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Max-Paul Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Had me worried there George. Thought you where talking about your signature color. And expected to see something about purple.
LORi P Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Aaaaaahhhhh! I have yet to receive my lights from HLE since he is still waiting on C9s.George, what bulb sizes and counts did you get. I got m5 in 35 and 50 count. You have seriously ruined my day. :-(
Surfing4Dough Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I would love to see a photo comparison of what you found George. I just checked my HLE warm whites, and they are exactly what I anticipated/wanted. Maybe the cold winters of Minnesota have skewed your perception of warmth. Or maybe you got the factory rejects from China.
LORi P Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 S4D, what string lengths and bulb counts did you get from HLE this year?
TGabriel Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I think George is looking at the lights through the man on his house.
George Simmons Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Here's a dropbox link to the pic requested. Cool white is on the left, warm white is in the center and watered-down yellow (aka antique white) from HLE is on the right. Lori - I got green wire 70 ct M5 and white wire 70 ct M5. Both wire colors were ordered as warm white - what arrived is shown in the pic. I've been using warm white for 5 or 6 years and all my existing warm white, and also the warm white that arrived today from CDI, are identical to the middle color. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fp8cktdl3qh3jw9/2013%203%20Whites.jpg
Surfing4Dough Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 S4D, what string lengths and bulb counts did you get from HLE this year?I got both 70ct and 100ct on green wire, and they look like the middle set in George's photo. Definitely not yellow like the ones on the right.
LORi P Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I have warm white from previous years from CDI, HLE, and MITS. They all look like the ones in the middle. I feel sick right now. I hope I don't get 35 strings of antique white, too.
holidaylightexpress Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Fresh from the warehouse. http://www.holiday-light-express.com/images/wwvspw.JPG We have looked at warm whites from past years, even pulled a set from a different vendor, as well as examined several cases of lights from this year. They all look like the warm white we have always had, which looks like the center strand in the pic from George. We have spent several hours trying to replicate this yellow strand, and we just can't. It very well may be a fluke. It's not unheard of to get some bad colors mixed in, which is why we offered to exchange the lights for George at no cost to him. I can assure you this is an isolated case. No one else has had this issue, and if they did, we would be happy to work with them to figure it out.
Orville Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I actually like those "Antique White LED's" in Georges pic. Think they look very nice myself.
