UNDERTAKERdx Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 hello first posti am in australia and due to high power 240V i have chosen to use the DC route I will be using two of the CMB-16D-QC Deluxe DC Cards A power requirement question for item (CMB-16D-QC Deluxe DC Card)what would be the best for converting the power?I have been looking and have heard a(Mean Well MW 24V 14.6A 350W AC/DC Switching Power Supply NES-350-24 UL PSU)would work as i will be trying to run about 15k LED lights total over the 2 units totaling 32 LOR channles that range from 100 light string to 600 light strings the adapptors that they came with have stated on them 24-36v 3-6 Watt total some also are run from a AA battery my other question on this will the one AC/DC power be able to run both controllers?or how can it be calculated? one last questionwhat would be the best way to get the brightness set to manufactuing level of leds as not to over power them thus dramdicly decresing life of them thanks again and sorry if this has been asked elseware
tjflory Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 If you haven't already bought the cards, look at the 24 channel DC Card... more bank for the buck! tj

You may want to consider placing each card in its own enclosure with its own (smaller) power supply. This worked great for me and is actually cheaper than buying 1 big power supply and A LOT of wire. or how can it be calculated? one last questionwhat would be the best way to get the brightness set to manufactuing level of leds as not to over power them thus dramdicly decresing life of them. Make sure you power supply output is appropriate for your LEDS. Most power supplies are adjustable +/- a few volts. thanks again and sorry if this has been asked elseware Edited September 7, 2013 by tjflory
Geoff Harvey Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Hi There are many LOR users in Australia who have gone the DC route including myself. The Meanwell PSUs are recommended, but there are also a lot of generic units that are very similar (& look virtually identical at a cheaper price.)I have been using 10 or more of the generics for several years with minimal problems, but the seller I previously used no longer supplies these PSU's. On a price - output power basis, I standardized on 350W units which can be purchased from many sources such as http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mean-Well-MW-27V-13A-350W-AC-DC-Switching-Power-Supply-/350835298092?tfrom=110962147101&tpos=top&ttype=price&talgo=undefined and Ray Wu's store at http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/350W-Dual-Output-Switching-Power-Supply-88-264VAC-input-12V-350W-output-CE-and-ROHS-approved/701799_289599951.html I find that for the typical Australian light strings (such as those from Big W), a 350W PSU will power 6-9000 leds and I have several supplies which power more than 1 LOR board. While the AC power packs supplied with Australian strings are usually rated at ~24V, to power the strings by DC you typically need about 30V. The PSUs are available in a range of nominal voltages (5, 12, 13.8, 24, 27 & 36V) and each has an adjustment of about +-10%. For many strings I use the 27V PSUs adjusted to 30V as my supply. If you have not already discovered the Australian lighting site http://auschristmaslighting.com/forums/index.php I would suggest you look closely at this. It has many LOR users as members, but concentrates on discussions at the forefront of RGB lighting and control using LOR and other control hardware and software. Hope this helps. UNDERTAKERdx Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 thank you i will have a look. i think that 350W is the pretty close to the ones i saw best thing was free shippngas it's a few $100 to get controllers etc from LOR
