rainyoregonchristmas
In applying the ccp to one of my new elements, I must have pulled, or strained or kinked a wire somewhere as I lost the last 7 pixels on a string. Three of the seven still glow faintly red, not in a row however. Do you think they are salvageable or should I just replace the string? I haven't tried to locate or bridge the break yet, something I might try tomorrow with a clearer head. Suggestions would be helpful. After searching the store... I don't see replacement CCP's? Am I missing them? -matt Edited July 7, 2013 by rainyoregonchristmas

rainyoregonchristmas
Found it! Using the LED needle trick. I found the bad connection surrounding pixel number 7. Submitted a ticket. Hopefully I can get a section of pixels to replace the damaged part and not have to purchase an entirely new string. -Matt

a31ford
LED and a resistor, and a pair of needles, couple chunks of thin wire. If you think "test lamp" that will pierce thin insulation, you are on the right track. We use something very similar to diag automotive electrical problems.... rainyoregonchristmas
I wish I had received an answer back on either a replacement string or repair size chunk of pixels... but I guess everyone is at the party in Texas or something. I haven't had any additional responses back on my ticket in the last 5 days. They said they've never run into that before and would check with engineering... but no response yet. I just want to get back to the blinky flashy. Strange that you can buy a replacement CCR at the store, but can't buy CCB or CCP. The weird thing is the short was not in the wires that I could reach with the needle. Instead it seems I might have tightened a zip tie too tight on the pixel housing and must have broke a soldier joint or something inside of a pixel. Definitely a learning lesson. Just didn't realize they were that fragile. That is also the reason I decided to design a light clip to attach the pixels to my material, less risk of damaging the pixels. I just didn't figure it would cost $5,000 for a mold for the light clips. Sad too, because it was my first application of these pixels on my folding mini trees. -RainyOregonchriStmaS
bisquit476
Most of them are at the Expo in Gatlinburg this weekend, you probably won't get a response till next week some time.

David Spangler
So if zip ties can crush the pixel housing and damage the pixel what is the best way to mount the pixels???????????????????
rainyoregonchristmas
That's why I am working on a project to help fix that. I'll hopefully have some details later this week on that. I need just a few details from an outside company and I'll be ready to spill the secret.
