Larry Leonhardt
I just got a adjustable temp soldering iron, what temp should i set the temp to , When working on a LOR dc board ? Edited June 13, 2013 by Larry Leonhardt
bisquit476
I've used 650F for regular soldering, and 850F for the heavy stuff.
Jon Clark
Are ,you using no lead solder or a leaded solder? For leaded solder For heavier leads use a larger solder tip for your iron and 700 to 750, remeber to keep the tip of the iron tinned when it is not in use , it will require alot more heat to solder with a tip that is not tinned proplery. higher tempertures than 800 will easily lift a circuit trace and or pad. SMT part, be very careful pads will come off very easily
stanward
I use 625 for any of the Integrated Circuits, 650 for resistors and capacitors, 725 for the heavy stuff. One lead of each of the 220 ohm resistors have a heat sink on the printed circuit board (LOR should've used thermal pads to eliminate the heat-wicking effect), I set my iron at 725 for those.
