Announcing the 2013 Minnesota Christmas Light Addition Problem (CLAP) festival

When: Saturday, June 1st
Where: The Waldon Zoo (5349 89th Crescent Circle N. Brooklyn Park MN 55443)

Start Time: 9AM
End time: 9PM, we run out of things to talk about or the dogs chase us out of the house

Fee: A willingness to talk (tough for Lutherans)

RSVP: Please respond with your attendance by Monday May 27th to ensure that we have enough food, coffee and chairs.

Currently, I am looking for a list of topics to cover. Please chime in with areas you would like to see covered and things you would like to present to the group.

Some topics that have already been suggested are:

  • Light Show Pro
  • Hinkle’s Light Sequencer
  • Vixen 3.x
  • Wireless controllers
  • Pixels
  • Other topics

The day will open with a short discussion about the displays that we each operate. If you have video, pictures or other; please bring them. We can make arrangement to get them to the house if needed.

The day is to share experiences, dreams and new technologies. I trust that people are willing to talk about the direction that they are headed. Please bring new toys and trinkets to talk about. If you need time or help to get stuff here, just let me know and we can make accommodations.

The Zoo is planning to provide lunch during the day. If we run late, we will make arrangements for sandwiches or pizza. If you have unique dietary needs. Please PM me with what we can do to accommodate you.

I have a LCD TV that can be used as a computer monitor with either HDMI or VGA inputs. I currently am running Vixen 2.x on one computer. I can load other software if needed. Or if you want to bring your own, we can do that too.

Some individuals have raised their hands to bring tables and chairs. I will be asking those individuals once I have a head count.

*** Warning ***
The house has dogs living here, hence my use of the term “zoo”. Debbie (my wife) and I are avid dog agility competitors. If you have allergies to dogs, this environment may not be conducive to your health. You be the judge of this.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

I definitely plan on coming.  Just in case it appears that LOR isn't represented, there will most likely be several LOR users there, hopefully including "world famous" George Simmons who can teach us all a thing or two (or 29) about sequencing.

If it's anything like previous events, it will be relatively small, informal, and a lot of fun to just shoot the breeze with fellow crazies.  It's well worth anyone's time who is within driving distance of the Twin Cities.

Sign me up.

Thanks for the plug Tim.

If there's enough interest, I'll certainly be willing to do a segment on sequencing.

Looks like our two dogs will be busy sniffers when I get home that day...

Sounds like fun. I'm still a first timer so it would be great to learn more. I'll check the calendar.

Minnesota Mini 2013 reminder

Greetings to the Blinky gang,

This is a reminder that I am hosting the Minnesota (and surrounding 300 Miles) Mini in Brooklyn Park MN on Saturday, June 1st.

The current list of people that have shown interest is:

Board                   Name                         What they are presenting
DIYC                    Joel (GoodHumor)
DIYC                    Unshakable Mike      Headblinkers, Wireless & Other until the hook
DIYC                    Dirk                           How to cook Lutefisk
DIYC                    Tfisher                       LOR
DIYC                    ErnieHorning
DIYC                    Skunberg
DIYC                    Basis21b
Light-o-Rama       George                      LOR
Light-o-Rama       TheUltimate
Light-o-Rama       jjd35
Light-o-Rama       frozentundra52 - Tentative (maybe snowed in)

Please correct me if I missed what you would like to present.

If you would like to attend, just let me know. I am looking for the headcount to ensure that I have enough food to feed the masses. If there is a topic, concept or idea you would like to float in front of people for “tuning”, this would be a good opportunity. It is time to get together with people that understand your desire to sit in the basement and listen to the same Christmas song for 6 hours.

Cheers,

Joel

Your one Week (plus a couple of days) Warning!

As a reminder, the Minnesota Mini will be happening Saturday, June 1st in Brooklyn Park MN.

This is the framework for the agenda. The timing is tentative as we are here to swap ideas and conversations. We can run longer or shorter as needed. I will be around all evening if we run that long.

8:00 AM Meet and Greet (Coffee, Juice and Donuts)

8:30 AM - Introductions

- Who you are

- Where you are located

- How long have you been doing Blinky

- A basic description of your system (LOR, Vixen and so on)

- Bonus points: What have you built/purchased for blinky lights for next year? What are you planning to build/buy?

- What are you looking to get more information on?

9:30 AM - Dirk - Something interesting with Lutefisk (I am afraid to ask)

10:30 AM - Unshakeable Mike - Headblinkers, Wireless, Snubbers & other

11:30 AM – Falcon – Coro-plast and Vixen Plus (sneak peak)

12:30 Lunch (I have been warned that Dirk cannot touch the BBQ)

1:30 PM - Tfisher - LOR, dumb RGB and E1.31

2:30 PM - George - LOR sequencing

3:30 PM - Wrap up

- What are you planning to build/buy?

- What are you looking to get more information on?

In typing out the agenda, I can see right that the times won’t fit. We will be adjusting as needed or as hardware is brought in and out. Breaks will be inserted when appropriate.

For presentations, I have:

- 42” LCD TV (HDMI, DVI and RGB (15pin) 1070x768

- Stereo amplifier

- Dual core 2.2G with Vixen 2.x

- Whiteboards

- Internet access (wired and wireless)

- Air fresher for after the Lutefisk

Please let me know if you see something that doesn't make sense or if I have you down for something that you
didn't raise your hand for.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

Cheers,

Joel
