copotay
Just go my starter package 16, tested it out and love it. Here is a pic of how I plan to hook it up outside with my Sony weatherproof stereo that will be under my porch along with the MP3 director. Also a link to a short vid of it in action with Wizards of Winter, I know its a common song but had to try it with it. Goodbye Mr Christmas. http://youtu.be/ZT0usdbP4zQ Edited February 16, 2013 by copotay
james campbell
nothing like seeing the lights in action for the first time. how close to thr road are you? running the radio like that is good, but you may also think about a transmitter to get all the people who stop in cars and don't get out. copotay
I know, in person its a whole lot different. We live on a private road away from traffic, a few family members living around each other in the rural country. The private rd is about 50 feet from the front door where the radio will be. We are in the back of our property away from the main road. I am about 600 feet from the main rd but there are alot of obstructions, trees, buildings, homes, etc blocking anyone on the main road from seeing us but they can see a bunch of flashing from the main rd and sometimes people travel onto the private rd to see it when I was running the Mr Christmas. I had one of my friends ask me why I was spending the money and creating such a light show when really no one can see it except for people that know its there and my family. I simply told him because I like looking at it. If I see I have alot of visitors that start coming onto our private rd thats probably what I will add is a transmitter, tks for the suggestion.

copotay
tks ya'll, and once I get up and running, with all my extension cords I need to make for christmas, I probably will run a transmitter, kinda taking baby steps right now until I feel proficient in it, at least I have alot of months to sequence, I have about five already made and the wife and I have picked out about 30 more songs to do on seperate cards. gmac
Yep, Here ya go, caught up in the trap (LOL) ...........One thing you might want to consider is your neighbors having to listen to say WIW multiple times a night for 3 weeks from your speakers.............they might get annoyed...............Just Sayin'I did a halloween show for 3 nights with the audio coming from my speakers and I heard "If I hear THRILLER one more time I'm gonna throw up"

The only way folks know about my display is from me or word of mouth.Sometimes I wish that I lived in a community. This is my second year, our first year we were getting a couple cars a week, this year towards Christmas we were getting a couple cars a night(2-5 or more that is alot for us) My point is I expect traffic to be even higher this year. Kelly Jett has a display on a privite road and he made a parking space for cars to pull in from the main road. The night I went to see his light the lot was full. If you do a big computerized dispaly be ready for folks who want to see it
copotay
Appreciate the advice, and if I start seeing alot of traffic thats what I will do hook up a transmitter also and post a sign at the main entrance of our private drive, I wish I could have some room for traffic to park and then it dead ends, so they have to turn around but we do have a big turn around for us

DougP
Welcome to the great world of blinking, flashing lights. It's a great feeling when you see them for the first time and every time after.
Orville
Lol, they think thats bad, they need to listen to a song 200 - 300 times to sequenceNow isn't that the truth! It's truly a wonder that we still go out and even enjoy our own, or even other displays that may have used some of the same songs we did, after listening to it over and over like that to get it sequenced! copotay
Another thing I found is that you hear a song for years and while you are picking it apart, slowing it down, etc, you hear stuff in the song you never noticed before. My first ones were kinda rough but I think I am getting a little better, I have played guitar for many years learning songs by ear so that might be helping too. kelly jett
yeah just a heads up from someone who was in your place a couple of years ago. like james said i live 350ft from the road. you come across our bridge and the drive splits for my neighbor and i. i put in a 40x50 gravel parking pad for people to come and see my display. i had some much traffic last year that this summer i am expanding it some more. now i can fit about 6 cars next to each other. the main reason i did this was so people could get off the main road to watch the lights and so people weren't turning around in my neighbors yard. filling tire holes isn't fun in the middle of the summer. make it easy on your visitors and you will get more visitors. your neighbors may say they like your display and don't mind the occasional visitor but once the word gets out you will have more people coming by. after awhile your neighbors are gonna get mad because a.they can't get to their house or b. all of these people turning around in their driveway (trust me it will bother them). a transmitter is the best investment you can make for your display. the visitors get to stay in their warm car and enjoy the lights and your neighbors don't have to hear frosty or wizards every night. just think the further away you stop people to see the lights the more things you can light up. everything between the visitor and the house is now part of the display. good luck and let me know if you have any more questions
