ken collins
As we use videos in our display, and wanting to change things around this year, I came up with the idea of showing videos inside a snow globe. I was just going to use a round screen and add a snow globe border effect to the video. Yea, try and find that..... I've just been using movie maker, but have other software I can layer an effect on a video. Just thought I'd throw the idea on here, and see if anybody could expand on it, or if a graphic artist needed a project.
MikeZ
Ken, I have a wreath screen in my display, but in 2011, one of the images from the song "Shake up Christmas" was a snow globe. Here's the video http://www.lightsondisplay.com/2011.html, and you can see the effect at :39. My friend created it for me using Adobe After Effects. The effect is achieved by comping the reflection and curvature of the glass over the internal image, plus the snow. It definitely takes some skill and talent to achieve the correct look. If you create a circular screen, you could mount it on a base that would complete the look of an old world snow globe.
ken collins
Hi Mark, I met ya at last years Wa CLAP. I have the trial of after effects, and there is a lot of tutorials on how to create that effect, and I'm going to keep playing with it. Had already had a plan of doing the round screen/base thing. Was just trying to bring more life to the effect, but damn, that software is expensive for just a single effect. I put a plea out to the local college, and have a student who may want to do it for a class project. We're suppose to bump this weekend, and if nothing else,, maybe learn some about the software. Figure if I don't use it, maybe somebody else will later. My son-in-law, was taking apart a few college classrooms for remodel, and brought over a couple retractable screens yesterday, which opened up a whole bunch of new ideas. With your help last year, and Lowel's, we animated a puppet d.j., and was a real crowd pleaser. Thanks again for all your helpKen
