I have not been here for quite some time because of all of the negativity I was seeing in the posts. today when i came in. i was immediately drawn to the post that Sheldon started ... asking for used lights. The positivism this post created was AWESOME ! Hats off to everyone that has and/or promised to help !

To me.... this is what this is all about! Since I do my display on a seriously low budget, I don't have extra stuff laying around to help him but I felt compelled to message him to thank him for renewing my hope for this forum.

Once again, I personally want to thank everyone for their efforts and generosity to this young lad. Keep up the good work Ya'll!

Agreed. Sheldon's thread was the most positive thread on here in a long time. I hope to see more threads like that! Christmas is about giving and sharing.... it only makes sense that a forum for Christmas light enthusiasts would reflect that same spirit!

I understand someone verified his age with someone on the phone, but the reality is we live in a very different world from when we were kids. Once you admit to misrepresenting your age to get something you wanted (such as a facebook account) you loose. Sorry guys, that is just how I feel about. =)

Drew

And if we were all judged by the actions/mistakes we made as kids/teenagers, we'd all lose.

Come on people. Give it a rest. We have all done something that was stupid. He was not asking for a handout. We the members that wanted to decided to help out a kid get started in this hobby.

There are a lot of more important things going on in the world to worry about than this kid.

Even if it did turnout to be a scam, so what, he will answer for it one day.

My mon always said, "If you can't say something Nice, Keep you mouth shut."

Read the first line of the original post again. Are we trying to drive the OP away? It started as a positive thread. Let's keep it that way. There are a lot of good things that people do, how about we try talking about those for a while???

REALLY!!!

After what LOR said, and I quote:

How about we take a 24 hour break on the thread?

There has been at least one person here on the forum who has called Sheldon_15's parents, and others who have researched the issue. Some have doubts as to the authenticity of Sheldon_15, but so far nothing has been brought to the attention of LOR (via PM or the Support site) that would indicate this is a fraud.

If you have information that you believe would indicate this is a fraud, you are encouraged to bring it to the attention of LOR directly.

The negative posts within this thread have been removed.

The negativity needs to end.

Are we really going to go back to bullying again, just in a different thread. I'm sorry if I offend anyone and if I get put in time out, that's fine too.

The kid ask for unwanted lights. WE, gave him the other stuff. He never ask for it. Someone could have given him some unused lights and it could have ended there. Well, it didn't. Someone sent him some lights, then a controller, then software and it ballooned from there.

I see the people who posted negatively didn't offer to donate anything. Why should you care what we gave him anyway?

Is everybody who posted negative comments afraid he may upstage your display because he's a kid with new and fresh ideas? Personally, I hope he out does us all.

This will be my last post on this subject. I think anybody who posted negative comments needs to grow up. This is a Christmas Light forum for goodness sake. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. I think everybody needs to start acting like you still remember what that means.

Now if I get slapped on the wrist by LOR, that's fine too. Go ahead, I can take it.

Sheldon if you read this, I am behind you 100%. I'll help you all I can. You have my phone number or just PM me if you have questions. If I can't answer your question, I'll try and find someone who can.

Well put Ron. There should be more threads in the spirit of giving and helping. There should be more people who want to help as well instead of finding reasons to ambush someone. All in all a lot of people here did a great thing for this kid and this is what should be the norm not the rare occasion.

Why do people persist on bullying this kid? We (members) decided to help out someone at OUR expense NOT those trying to bully!

Did it cost any of you bullies a dime? Just seems all you bullies wanna give is your .02(cents). SAD!

I hope the kid brings up some new idea or prop for this community & I also hope he has a better show than most of us here!

This is what happens to bullies

I'd rather see this thread be positive than what it is trying to turn into.

Well our future is not looking very good then because there are countless kids using facebook under the age of 12 who have put in a false age to be able to use it, many parents have no idea how to set one up or help their kids so they are left to their own devices to work it out. To go from a young man asking if people have any spare lights they want to get rid of (and he would pay shipping) to claims that this person is untrustworthy based on a facebook listing is being fairly shallow in the judgment of a person. The world is not black and white and to then attack this young mans character based on this alone is fairly shameful in my opinion. Let it go and take the positives that have come out of this instead of focussing on trivial negatives.

The community gets as much back by giving to this young man as what this young man is recieving because in the end it wasnt him who went on asking for a free setup, it was the community members that offered all this up.

Is someone writing all this down for a future TV Soap Opera?

What a roller coaster this is.

Maybe Sheldon would be interested in the online mini conference where others participate in a group video on how lighting stuff works?

And he could learn from us?

...... and the forum's heart grew three sizes that day!

Two days now without negative posts (at least in the threads I am reading :P).  And the generosity in the newbie controller fund is almost unbelieveable!!!  Makes me smile and my heart get all melty....

Keep up the great work everyone!! :)  :)  :)

A person can choose to be unconditionally charitable or they can choose to be cynical. Each person has to look in the mirror each day and face the choices they make. I would rather see us be generous and miss from time to time than to be that "other guy".

Notice what happens when one person does something kind? Who is better off today because of the recent actions by many here.....the person receiving generosity or us? I'd argue we have been the ones who gained.
