rhino
With over 400 ext cords of differing lengths, colors, and gauges, I'm at a loss on how to store this mass of extension cords. What do y'all do to manage / store all your ext cords? We have 70-gallon Sterilite totes to store all our lights and indoor decorations, but ext cords get pretty-darn-heavy to store in this fashion.Looking for tips from you experts.TIA
Guest Don Gillespie
I hang a lot of mine up in my Christmas shed, and when I am maxed out on those I start with the totes, I have twenty three hangers in the shed each hanger holds 5 cords between 25 foot and 100 foot lengths the SPT cords go in totes and I have 6 totes full of cords. rainyoregonchristmas
For my cords I make boards to wrap my cords around. I take a 3/4" sheet of plywood and cut it up into 6 x 12" rectangles. Then using drywall screws I attach 24" long strips of 1 x 2" pine furrings to the edges forming and "H." I find that you can store between 200 and 250 ft. of cord on them before it starts to get heavy. To store them I have a shelf I stack them on. I also find that standing them on their edge when storing them helps keep the shelf nice and neat instead of a jumbled pile. As far as for the wood, I haunt the "Scrap" wood section in HD looking for partial sheets to buy for $1-4, it saves cost that and I don't need an entire pile of cord boards that you'd get from an entire 4x8 sheet.
