What shall I do with this?

I have this to put in my display this year.

I had it last year but didn't use it.

We are converting it to be E1.31 controlled instead of the propritery protocol it is now.

It is going to be a few thousand pixels.. not sure how to incorporate it.

I can fly it or ground mount it.. Flying it may be a bit tricky in high winds..

Any thoughts?

Tree topper to an 80 ft mega, mega, mega tree. When you become a hazard to low flying aircraft. Then you'll be tall enough. It would be the ultimate statement.

It was supposed to be a ball drop for NYE but the city of Sacraemeno in all its wisdom decided they would not allow it.

Would make a great tree topper! it is 5' in dia... need a really BIG tree!

Did you inherit this beauty? Anything you do with it will be great. Are you going to use SE? Curious what the config will look like?

I actually bought this one. It was built by a couple of friends that I used to work with sometime after I left the company. We are part of the group that made the electronics for the actual Time Square Ball you see drop in NY on NYE, both the one that has been up there for the last five years and the one before that that only dropped once.

This was supposed to be for a second drop here in Sacramento. I put together a cube for the first drop in 2008-2009 for NYE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSYdHcQnzuM

That was fun!

I am going to need to map this ball for my show.. not sure how I want to do that yet.. got any suggestions?

YES! let me try to help map it for you. Sounds like you already have a layout which needs to be translated to lor. Need latitude wedges and longitude bands. Soccr ball.

Hey Bob.. when I get more info I will pass it to you.. right now it is not here. I lent it back to my buddies for their NYE party since the city would not let me do it.. One of them is chaning the firmware and the driver boards to accept E1.31. I hope to get it back in a few weeks..

And thanks! that will be very cool.

I'll take it and try to find a way to shake it for you. (Ugh... I know the comments are coming). As far as a time frame getting it back to you after I figure it out... well with the need for a truck to transport it, and the complexity of the wiring, and the pneumatics I'll add and then there is the weather pattern in Siberia to figure in, and it needs to be tested and tested in inclement weather... it'll take me just a little while... I'd have it done for you by the 31st of January.....2014. That's not a problem is it?
