testing smart pixels

I looked and looked for a easy option to test 2811 pixels without having to crank up my computer, start up the 682 controller, plug all the stuff in etc. then to change to a different string , shut it all down, rewire and restart the process.

I found these on Ray's store and ordered one (not really expecting much, but for the price couldn't loose much). What could you expect for $3.00 (PLUS SHIPPING)

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/DC5V-input-WS2811-LED-smart-pixel-controller-for-testing-max-100pixels-controlled/652082478.html

Well I was plesently supprised, (although no directions or instructions, you get exactly as in the picture and NOTHING else).

IT WORKS GREAT !!.

I hardwired a connector for my 5 volt power supplies, and a connector for pixels.

The controller has leads for 5 Volt positive and Negative (input side), Clock and Gound (output side), (the 5 volt line for input also runs to the 5 volt input on the pixel string as well as the input on the controller)

You can select any of the 4 basic colors (Red,Blue,Green & White) and chase, cycle etc. You can change the speed of chase cycle and rate of color change.

(also got one for 12 volt dumb pixels).

Jerry,

I've seen those before on Ray's but never thought twice about them.

At $3.00 sounds good, hopefully it didn't cost you $20 in shipping.......

Sounds like a quick video is in store for us, right????

Looks like a good idea. Hard to go wrong for $3.

I got tired of re-connecting everything so I just leave a E681 hooked up on my test bench with a power supply.

I think I'll order a couple.

Jerry,

Thanks for pointing that out. I am just about to order some RGB pixel strings from Ray to have a play with, and have now added the tester to the order.

Regards,

Alan.

Yea $20 shipping for a $3 item sucks but got a couple of them. and even $23 to save all the setup and tear down time is worth it. Now I can check 1 pixel or 100 very quickly, and since I put me standard connectors on the controller it is even easier. For loose pixels I just use a cople of jumper wires.

I hate to spend so much on shipping for just a small item so I add a bunch of pixels. Then the price jumps up as well as the weight so the shipping goes up. Instead of $20 shipping on a $3 item I spend $50 shipping on $250 items!

But proportionately, it makes me feel better...

That's cool! I will have to pick two of those (one for 5V and one for 12V) next time I place an order from Ray.
